    Introduction

When you are looking for an X79 enabled motherboards there are a lot of choices to make.  Do you take a no holds barred approach and go for the top of the line or pick and choose the features you need to match how you plan to use the system.  Of course the answer isn't so easy but is usually addressed when you factor in total system cost.

In this review we will be looking at an entry level X79 motherboard from Asus called the P9X79.  The P9 series of motherboards are part of the mainstream consumer line from Asus designed for the majority of users looking for a stable system and a few upgrade options as you move up the product line.  The best part of these boards is that Asus makes no compromises when it comes to system performance.
Motherboard segmentation is a large part of the overall marketing and sales.  While one product may satisfy the majority of users the system costs may not be all affordable and a main reason why we see trimmed down motherboards with only the essentials.  There are three X79 motherboards that make up the consumer P9 lineup.  The P9X79, featured in this review, is the basic offering and starting point for the series.  P9X79 Pro is the next level up and shares all of the basic features in addition to Bluetooth GO, Asus SSD Caching and a revised PCI Express layout.  The top of the line board is the P9X79 Deluxe and starts again with the same basic features and adds a few more such as twice the power phases, Bluetooth 3.0, revised PCI Express layout, Asus SSD caching and dual LAN.
