Gigabyte GA-7PESH1 powered by 2x Xeon E5 2690 under real World workloads @ ocaholic
Published: Monday, May 14, 2012 | By: DennisUnless you are building a custom dual processor workstation or what the power of the EVGA SR Series there is little chance you would ever use (or need) a dual processor system. Modern processors are just "too" powerful and mobo makers were shy to design the motherboards.
Because of this many people are unaware that Xeon processors exist nor that they have slighly different specs from the mainstream desktop models. Are they better? Do they suck? only Intel knows for sure.
Instead of an enthusiast motherboard, this time we will look at a workstation motherboard. Meanwhile it is not a entry level motherboard, Gigabyte provided us with their latest high end motherboard which features up to 512 GB of DDR3 memory running at 1600 MHz, two 8 core / 16 threads processor, a high end LSI SAS controller and more. This time we will not only review the motherboard but also benchmark this dual Xeon Octocore setup under real world workloads/situations. Feel the power!
It is nice to see Gigabyte building dual processor systems again, I might have to get one of these for myself.

13 gaming mice review @ Hardware.Info
Published: Monday, May 14, 2012 | By: DennisThis should be a fun read bur reads more like a shopping list

To many computer users the mouse is just a necessary little tool for operating their computer. As long as it has two buttons and a wheel and the cursor goes where it's supposed to, most people are satisfied. Gamers are more demanding, however, in terms of comfort, performance, and features. We reviewed 13 gaming mice to find out what's currently out there.
A decent mouse is crucial for the serious gamer, that is why we are in the habit of regularly doing a round-up of the latest gaming mice. The 13 mice in this comparison test vary quite a bit in price, from £45 to £69. It’s a pretty big difference, which should mean that the performance and features should differ significantly as well. The only way of finding this out for sure is by a thorough test. And that’s exactly what we did. Here are the mice they tested, I have used a few of them before and some I have never heard of in my life.

MSI MOA Americas Qualifier has ended
Published: Friday, May 11, 2012 | By: DennisIn the last podcast Darren and I discussed the MSI MOA Americas Qualifier and what I was doing to prepare to compete. Well, after several long weeks the competition is now over and three overclockers have came out on top.
I was in 3rd place at one point in the competition but was quickly bumped down to 4th after [GF]Duke posted some excellent 3DMark 11 and 3DMark 03 scores using a standard OC edition HD7970. (likely modified) All of the competitors who finished in the top spots used a variety of hardware including LGA2011 Sandy Bridge E and 1155 Sandy Bridge processors both on MSI motherboards.
Sadly, I was at a disadvantage from the start due to my decision to stick with X79 and the HD7970 Lightning but was hopeful that I could get the scores I needed to place well in 3DMark 11 and was hoping for the best from the other two. In the end my gamble didn't pay off and my scores were only good enough for 8th place. Only the top 5 were awarded Level 2 HWBot competition points along with hardware prizes.
Congratulations to the winners, they posted some great scores in all three benchmarks and truly deserve to represent the Americas at the MOA finals. -

Running Sega Dreamcast Games on Your PC with nullDC @ Techgage
Published: Monday, May 7, 2012 | By: DennisYou know I haven't played the Dreamcast in years, in fact it was shortly after the laser went out that it started collecting dust and eventually fell out of popularity.
Want to play your Sega Dreamcast games but don't want to haul the console out of the closet? You're in luck, because there exists an outstanding emulator that I recently became addicted to: nullDC. This article covers all you need to know about it, including how to get started. So what are you waiting for? SoulCalibur is waiting.
The one game I really wanted to play on the Dreamcast was Quake III but the controls were backwards for me. It was about that time I was introduced to Crazy Taxi, great game but the sound track was horrible.

ECS Z77H2-A2X Black Edition Intel Z77 Motherboard Review @ PCSTATS
Published: Monday, May 7, 2012 | By: DennisYou've got to love the effort that ECS has gone thru to really pimp up their motherboard offerings. Sadly the UEFI design is a little, busy and the PWM is average but it looks nice.
Today PCSTATS has a real treat for you - the ECS Z77H2-A2X Black Edition Golden motherboard! Every metallic surface on this board is gold plated so it's got quite the 'bling' factor going for it. The reason for all the gold is that 2012 is the year of the Dragon in the Chinese zodiac calender, making this a very auspicious time. ECS's Z77H2-A2X motherboard is built around the Intel Z77 chipset and primed for Intel's 22nm 3rd Gen. Intel Core i3/i5/i7 'Ivy Bridge' processors.
Not sure I like the gold plating but it does add some bling that wouldn't otherwise be seen by anyone.

Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 Intel Z77 Express LGA 1155 Preview @ techPowerUp
Published: Monday, May 7, 2012 | By: DennisI never considered this until now but the one thing missing from the Gigabyte Sniper lineup was a MicroATX motherboard for tiny machine goodness. Well wait no more cause now they got one.

Fresh out of boot camp, Gigabyte's latest platoon of gaming warfighters is here in the TPU motherboard testing facility, ready for battle. The Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 is a tiny mATX gaming fighter, armed with Gigabyte's own Super Hearing, Super Sight, Super Speed, and Super Sheild.
I do like how this board comes loaded with 16x PCI Express slots and the same sound and network hardware found on the regular size.

OC3D: Little Devil LD-V4 Test Bench Review
Published: Friday, May 4, 2012 | By: DennisI've been working on a bench table design for quite a while now hoping to create the ultimate blend between pure awesome and convenience. (at least for me) The design is complete I just need to send out have some of the parts made up.
Of course with that being said, you can buy bench tables today, already built. So where do you find the best ones ever? If you say the United States you fail.
We couldnt live with a decent test bench as the basis for almost every review we do here at OC3D. We take a look at a new one from Little Devil.
How is that for a tagline?
Ya, I didn't think so either.

NL: Review Block - Coolers and Cards - (5/4/2k12)
Published: Friday, May 4, 2012 | By: DennisJust a quick list of related reviews that landed in the newsbox. I am finding that many sites are moving away from the email distro and resorting to Facebook or RSS to get their news out. While I see benefit in that, it's not quite the same (*shudder* never thought I would admit that)
Check out the list then comment in the Forum if you have any questions, complaints or flame reversals.
