Would Google destroy Digg or take it to the next level?
Published: Tuesday, July 29, 2008 | By: DennisHere is a follow-up post to the one featured below.
The topic of discussion is, of course, TechCrunch's rumor that Digg will soon be acquired by Google for somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 million. Digg's users are debating what Google acquiring Digg might mean for their community in this thread on the site. The question is, would being controlled by a big company like Google ruin--or enhance--the community that Digg has worked so hard to build?
I suspect digg would be destoryed, consumed into a special section of google, tore apart to learn how the math behind the scenes works and then disbandoned.
Just my $0.02 on the matter.

Google In Final Negotiations To Acquire Digg
Published: Tuesday, July 29, 2008 | By: DennisThis is a little old but Techcrunch posted some information about how google is in final negoiations to buy digg for a megar 200 million.
Personally I don't think it will happen for 200 million but I suspsect that if the deal does go thru it will be at the cost of strong arm tacticts and purposful blacklisting of all digg related material from the google network. We all know that google is an excellent resource but if you cross the search engine giant they can pretty much erase you from the internet map.
Lets hope that doesn't happen to us.
Google’s on and off negotiations with Digg have been back on in a big way for the last six weeks, we’ve heard from multiple sources inside and outside of Google. The two companies have reportedly signed a letter of intent and are close to a deal that will bring Digg under the Google News property. The acquisition price is in the $200 million range, says one source.
Still have to admit 11 million in funding plus advertisement deals becoming 200 million overnight is a pretty big payday. Makes you wonder, would Kevin keep all he could? (after paying investors) or dish some out to the other execs in the company?

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- A powerful typhoon struck Taiwan early Monday, closing schools and businesses and grounding domestic and international air traffic.
Typhoon Fung Wong made landfall on the east central coast just before daybreak, packing winds of 105 miles per hour. It is expected to drop up to 36 inches of rain on the central portion of the island and perhaps half of that much on its southern and northern extremities, including the capital of Taipei.Hopefully the island will open up later today.

From the Erotic Domain, an Aerobic Trend in China
Published: Saturday, July 26, 2008 | By: DennisNot computer related but still pretty darn cool
BEIJING — Clad in knee-high leather boots, spandex shorts and a sports bra, Xiao Yan struck a pose two feet off the ground, her head glistening with sweat and her arms straining as she suspended herself from a vertical pole.
“Keeping your grip is the hardest part,” she said. “It’s really easy to slide downward.”
Ms. Xiao, 26, who works as a supermarket manager, is one of a growing number of women experimenting with China’s newest, and most controversial, fitness activity: pole dancing.
“I used to take a normal aerobics class, but it was boring and monotonous,” Ms. Xiao said. “So I tried out pole dancing. It’s a really social activity. I’ve met a lot of girls here who I’m now close friends with. And I like that it makes me feel sexy.”
