After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Benchmarks - Real World

    Gaming Performance
Serious Sam is a great FPS game that brings back many things that made FPS fun, TONS of things to shoot!!. Even with conservative settings this game will tax even the fastest of computers.

I used default fresh installed settings for this benchmark. If you'd like to do your own Serious Sam demo benchmark bring down the console and type "dem_bProfile=1" (w/out quotes), exit the console then choose a demo from the main menu. When the demo is complete pull down the console again to see your score.
My personal favorite, Quake 3. I used the high-quality settings with the resolution set at 1024x768 32-bit color.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein. For this benchmark I used a multi-player demo called checkpoint. If you wish to try the demo out for yourself it can be downloaded from the following website or ask me and I'll send you a copy.
    Content Creation Winstone 2002
The best of the best when it comes to real world benchmarks, this free program is available from eTesting Labs and uses real programs to test the overall performance of your computer. These programs include: Adobe Photoshop 6, Adobe Premiere 6.0, Macromedia Director 8.5, Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev 4, Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7, Netscape Navigator 6.01, and Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 5.0c.

This is a comparable score though is a few points less than the SL-85DR-C using a 2.0Ghz P4.
    Business Winstone 2001 1.0.3
Business Winstone is quite similar to the Content Creation benchmark but uses programs that you would most likely use in the office. These programs include Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Project 98, Lotus Notes R5, NicoMak WinZip, Norton AntiVirus, and Netscape Communicator.

The same is true in this benchmark the SL-85DR-C wins with a slower processor
    SPECviewperf
Here is a realworld benchmark to give us an idea as to how well the system will perform in a "workstation" environment. For more information about this benchmark and what it can and cannot do please refer to this page http://www.specbench.org/gpc/opc.static/viewperf.htm

The results for this benchmark are not comparable to the SL-85DR-C since I used a GeForce4 during the test, as you can guess the 85ERV wins, but not by much.
