"Northwood" Processors with SMP Ability?

Published: | Posted By:

I picked this bit of info up from 2cpu.com today and found it quite interesting. It would appear that x-bit labs looked a little deeper into the Northwood core during their review and found that the SMP feature, previously removed, made it back into the Northwood. Here is a snip.
"As you can see, the only difference between the flags of the Willamette and Northwood processors is the support of On-chip APIC hardware implemented in the new core. It implies that Pentium 4 based on Northwood core supports SMP configurations."
The "As you can see" refers to a wcpuid screenshot showing the difference between the two processors. I'll let you speculate on what could happen next. big grin smile
