  • With Varonis, University of Maryland School of Medicine Identifies, Classifies and Secures Sensitive Data

Published: Monday, September 28, 2015 | By: GlobalNewswire

NEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UM SOM), the first public and the fifth oldest medical school in the United States, needed better visibility into the different types of sensitive data its employees and students were storing across its file systems. Regulatory requirements necessitated that the school's IT department regularly audit and report on who was accessing sensitive data, when and where, but they had no way of doing so efficiently.

That's when Scott Stefan, UM SOM's Executive Director of Information Services, discovered Varonis Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRNS), and its DatAdvantage and Data Classification Framework solutions. Varonis is the leading provider of software solutions for unstructured, human-generated enterprise data. UM SOM's IT team can now easily see exactly what types of sensitive data they have, where it lives, and who has access to it all from one easy-to-use interface.

Detailed, Fast & Crucial Insight into Sensitive Company Data

In just a few days after implementing Varonis, Stefan and his team were receiving audit reports from the software that opened their eyes to the location and vulnerability of sensitive data in a way that they could never have accomplished manually.

According to Stefan, "Before Varonis, we really didn't have any way of knowing where sensitive data was located or what type of sensitive data we had in our network. Through the Varonis Data Classification module, we are now easily able to see exactly what kind of data we have, and it has been very eye-opening… What we didn't realize before implementing Varonis was just how much of that data we actually had stored in random locations."

Possibility to Maintain Data Security & Transparency in the Cloud

The University of Maryland School of Medicine's IT team was tasked with migrating a percentage of their data to the cloud, but management was uneasy at the prospect of losing control associated with moving data, particularly the huge amount of PHI and clinical data, to the cloud. Specifically, all UM SOM email data will be moved to Microsoft Office 365 in the next few months, in addition to some file data. Already having Varonis DatAdvantage played a crucial role in getting everyone at the school more comfortable with the migration of this data to the cloud, because Varonis' compatibility with Microsoft Office 365 allows for the same DatAdvantage capabilities, such as reporting on access and being able to classify data, in the cloud.

"Because of the type of data we store as a medical school, moving to the cloud is scary for a lot of folks," said Stefan. "Having a product like Varonis that can give us the same type of reporting on when people access files and who accessed them and where, makes having to move some of our data to Office 365 a lot easier for us to sell to all levels of the organization."

  • MSDSonline and KMI Are Now VelocityEHS

Published: Monday, September 28, 2015 | By: GlobalNewswire

CHICAGO, Sept. 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MSDSonline, the leading cloud environmental, health and safety (EHS) solutions provider, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Knowledge Management Innovations (KMI), one of the most respected global EHS and sustainability management information system (EMIS) providers, announced today that they will begin doing business as VelocityEHS. The new brand and identity reflect the company's focus on a simpler approach to EHS, sustainability and risk management with an easy to use platform solution. Headquartered in Chicago, VelocityEHS also has offices in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

With more than 10,000 customers, VelocityEHS makes its debut as a well-established leader, and one of the industry's largest and fastest growing EHS and sustainability software providers. Its suite of solutions enables organizations to create safer, more sustainable workplaces by helping them better identify and manage their environment, health, safety, and operational risks.

"When our two companies joined forces last August, we greatly increased both the breadth of our tools and the scope of the capabilities to solve our customers' broader EHS needs," said Glenn Trout, president and CEO of VelocityEHS.

"Our goal is to deliver the most relevant cloud EHS capabilities through an easily accessible platform, which is more affordable, quicker and easier to implement, and provides the simplest user experience for our clients. Telling that story is the main reason behind our new name and brand. We believe VelocityEHS better communicates the kind of EHS software solutions our customers want," Trout said.

According to user research, businesses – especially large enterprises – are moving away from solutions that solve niche problems and are looking for single-point software that solves an array of complex EHS challenges.

"We're listening to our customers," said Trout. "They're telling us that too many of the options today are slow to implement and cumbersome for their people to use. Our focus is on delivering a platform that is simple and intuitive and will help customers drive their EHS goals through quick implementation and organization-wide user engagement in order to mitigate risk and accelerate sustainability at all levels of their organization."

The VelocityEHS approach provides EHS professionals with a single solution for managing a wide range of EHS process, reporting and compliance tasks, including: incident management, audits and inspections, compliance management, corrective actions, management of change, chemical management, risk analysis, EHS training and training tracking. It can be implemented across an organization in as little as 4-6 weeks to more quickly drive performance at every level of the enterprise. The solution is backed by a customer success team that is widely recognized for delivering unparalleled customer support, earning among the highest renewal and customer satisfaction rates in the industry.

Trout said, "While our name is changing, what won't change is our commitment to creating partnerships with our customers. We will continue to guide them with expert advice, not just through implementation, but throughout their entire EHS and sustainability journey. And we'll also continue to develop products and services, based on the unique challenges our customers face as well as the best practices of the EHS and sustainability industry overall."

Beginning today, MSDSonline and KMI are doing business as VelocityEHS, and over the next few months the company will phase in its new identity across its offices, products and services.

The company plans to retain the MSDSonline name and begin using it as a product brand for its chemical management capabilities under the VelocityEHS umbrella. The MSDSonline brand will continue to deliver easy-to-use, cloud solutions to help businesses simplify chemical and safety data sheet management to meet global Hazard Communication requirements.

  • ASETEK – Court confirms judgement, increases damages award and issues injunction

Published: Wednesday, September 23, 2015 | By: Dennis

Now this is big news.  Asetek wins the patent wars against, none other than, Cooler Master.

    Here is the press release

San Jose, September 23, 2015. In late 2014, Asetek won a patent infringement case against CMI USA, Inc. (“CMI”) at the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The jury unanimously ruled in favor of Asetek, and awarded damages based on a 14.5% royalty rate. In a post trial motion, CMI demanded a judgement as a matter of law and a new trial.

The court yesterday denied CMI's demands, and instead substantially followed Asetek’s requests and issued a permanent injunction barring CMI and its parent Cooler Master from selling certain infringing products into the Unites States.

Also, the judge awarded Asetek enhanced damages i.e., a 25.375% royalty rate, on CMI’s revenues for sales of infringing products beginning January 1, 2015.

It should be noted that the matter is appealable by CMI.

    Huge I tell ya HUGE.

Well not really, it's just a matter of paying to use a certain technology in your products.  We have seen how TW companies "short cut" the process and just clone whatever they want.  They can then obscure it enough to skirt around the patent or bypass it completely and sell only in EU or Apac.  Assuming the product isn't sold where the company holds the patent there is no issue.  However in this case CM was importing these products to the US which is a red flag.

I also read somewhere that the AIO cooler on the FuryX was also made by Cooler Master so there might be some money to be taken there too.

  • Digital Storm Launches Their Most Advanced PC – AVENTUM 3

Published: Tuesday, September 22, 2015 | By: Dennis

Fremont, Calif. Sept. 22, 2015 – Digital Storm is proud to announce the launch of the new AVENTUM 3. Originally unveiled at CES 2015, this enthusiast class PC raises the bar for custom high-performance PCs. Featuring a custom liquid delivery system and pre-routed power for graphics cards, this is our most advanced PC to date.

“AVENTUM 3 encompasses everything about the Digital Storm brand and demonstrates our commitment to building the best PCs in the world,” said Harjit Chana, Chief Operating Officer. “This system is our declaration that a PC does not have to be just the sum of its parts. We designed the AVENTUM 3 from the ground up with a focus on unmatched accessibility and modularity that can’t be found anywhere else.”

The AVENTUM 3’s advanced liquid cooling system dramatically simplifies servicing and upgrading of liquid-cooled components. For the first time, enthusiasts can easily access fixed inlet & outlet ports located on the motherboard and quickly disconnect liquid cooled hardware without having to tear down the entire cooling system. This is made possible by AVENTUM 3’s unique, pre-routed liquid distribution system that does all the heavy lifting and requires zero modifications when new liquid-cooled graphics hardware is installed. This cooling system is completed with a custom proprietary water block designed by Digital Storm engineers and produced by EKWB.

A new power delivery system eliminates the need to rewire every time new graphics hardware is upgraded or replaced by utilizing custom engineered, Digital Storm exclusive plug-and-play power connectors. These connectors make it a simple task to add or remove power-hungry graphics cards while still maintaining clean cable management.

Unlike other enthusiast class computers, the AVENTUM 3 eliminates interior heat build-up with strategic radiator placement & specialized exhaust chamber technology. Excess heat generated by liquid cooled components is trapped in an isolated chamber and then vented out the rear of the chassis, safeguarding the system’s critical components.

AVENTUM 3 features a stunning exterior to match its smart internal design.  The full-size tower is crafted from steel & made in the U.S.A. with perforated panelling for maximum heat dissipation.  The subtle lighting and clear sides showcase the system’s powerful interior and clean aesthetic.

AVENTUM 3 is available today exclusively at www.digitalstorm.com, and starts at $4,930.

  • CRYORIG H5 Universal CPU Air Cooler Review @ [H]

Published: Wednesday, September 16, 2015 | By: Dennis

Some enthusiasts are completely against aircooling but it still stands as one of the most efficient cooling methods you can get.  You just might have to deal with "strange" designs.

The CRYORIG H5 UNIVERSAL heatsink claims to have a Hive Fin™ Design for Extreme Performance Efficiency and is compatible with a huge number of older and modern AMD and Intel processors. Along with the Hive Fins, we get Jet Fin Acceleration™ and Turbulence Reduction. Let's however see just how well it cools your CPU.

I really like the tower design on the H5, the fins look thick and arent completely flat.  As I have mentioned in my cooler reviews this promotes better thermal transfer and gives the cooler some curb appeal

  • Lian Li PC-V33 A Small Footprint Cube Case With Room Inside

Published: Monday, September 14, 2015 | By: Dennis

Featuring Unique Flip-Open Canopy, Divided Air Compartments, And New Drive Bay Dampening System.

September 2, 2015, Keelung, Taiwan - Lian-Li Industrial Co. Ltd today announces the PC-V33. Available in 3 choices: brushed aluminum in silver or black, or internal black with a tempered glass side door. The PC-V33 does not restrict PSU, GPU or main board choice due to size or power consumption: it's designed to accommodate full-sized gaming hardware in a compact form-factor. Its cube styling makes it a companion you can take with anywhere you need full-sized computing and still have room for a 240 mm water cooling radiator to be mounted inside. The most unique feature is the canopy top that opens the whole cube for easy building.

    Signature Lian Li Aluminum Design
The newly designed illuminated power button is now made out of the same high grade brushed aluminum as the whole case. The pop-out side doors detach and reattach effortlessly, yet remain firmly in place. The front and top panels form a canopy as a single fold of aluminum, adding strength and beauty to the cube case. When hinged open, the case internals become accessible in the same manner as a test bench, allowing system builders to install the components and change them with ease without any walls in the way. Dual 120mm case fans or up to a 240mm water cooling radiator can fit internally on the front bracket that also holds the magnetically attached air intake filter.

    Dual Compartment Air Flow Management
The PC-V33 uses vents and internal compartments to manage heat and dust inside the case. The floor of the main board compartment acts as a barrier so CPU and GPU heat does not affect the PSU or drives. The included 120mm fan vents the top compartment through the newly designed rear vent. The bottom compartment filters air for the PSU that is vented right out the back. The drives have their own 120mm exhaust fan with the aggressive new vent hole pattern.

    New Shock-Absorbing Drive Cage
The PC-V33 uses a new drive cage with the same rubber dampening system found in Taipei 101 to eliminate vibrations, ensuring the drives do not produce any noise. This cage can be half removed or fully removed for added flexibility. Horizontal mounting ensures air flow and correct alignment for long life.

    Full ATX sized Hardware Compatibility
The PC-V33 supports up to a full ATX motherboard in the top compartment with pre-installed standoffs that fit mini-ITX, mATX and ATX motherboards. It can house CPU coolers up to 190mm in height and VGA cards up to 330mm long. The bottom compartment can fit up to a 300mm long PSU and any combination of 4 3.5” or 2.5” drives on the anti vibration cage.

    Optional Adjustable RGB Interior Lighting
DIY enthusiasts can adjust the interior lighting through the optional RGB lighting kit complete with LED strips, cord clip, dimmer and controller. The rear mounted controller allows instant analog color selection. Guaranteed to fit and show off your custom interior.

    Price and Availability
The PC-V33 will be available in the USA in early September for the MSRP of PC-V33A/B USD 199, PC-V33WX USD 229.

  • ASUS STRIX R9 Fury DC3 OC Review @ Vortez

Published: Monday, September 14, 2015 | By: Dennis

Direct Copper, seems good right?  Asus calls their upgraded cooling solution DirectCU which I'm going to assume means it is a core contact design.  (heatpipes contact the chip)  These designs cool rather well but are plagued with "capacity" problems.

Enter DirectCU III, aka DC3. This major upgrade to ASUS’ cooling solution has been fed to a number of recently released cards including: R9 390X, R9 Fury and the graphics card in the spotlight today; R9 FURY. The STRIX R9 FURY DC3 OC arrives with a triple fan configuration which promises to deliver 30% better cooling performance and should be 3X quieter. Not only is this graphics card custom cooled but it’s also factory overclocked to squeeze even more out of AMD’s flagship GPU.

I really need to get on the STRIX train and see how good the cards are against the Classified line from EVGA.  (Or FTW now *roll*)
