A Case of the Uglies: 10 Ugly PC Cases @ Bigbruin
Published: Saturday, January 29, 2011 | By: DennisHere is a nice human interest peice, the top 10 Ugly PC Cases. I think 10 cases is really narrowing it down too much since the list could be considerbly longer.
I was on the fence about adding the final case to the list... I think it is ugly, but I know a great deal of people think it is a revolutionary work of art. I'm not sure that term can't mean ugly anyway, and with a quick survey enough people agreed with me, and it was added. Some agreed it was definitely ugly, while others said it was OK until they realized that it sells for about $700! Appropriately enough the Thermaltake Level 10 is ugly case number 10.
Yep they put the level 10 on the list, and you know what?
I agree. The case is cool, its spendy, it is over engineered, and designed by BMW. So what is it missing? innovation and practacalibity, its a board with a stand attached and several "boxes" to encase the various computer components, by far not BMW's best work. -
Crysis 3 plot already mapped out.
Published: Friday, January 28, 2011 | By: DeanIf all goes well we could see a Crysis 3 in the future.
Asked if the studio has Crysis mapped out as a trilogy, or as an even bigger story, Crytek CEO Cevat yerli said:"We definitely want to make Crysis 3. I'm not making a formal announcement. We'd like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first. I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2.
Guess the "can it play Crysis" joke, might never die.

Crysis 2 Demo released, fixes on their way.
Published: Thursday, January 27, 2011 | By: JimFinally Crysis launches, you get it downloaded and all ready to settle in for an afternoon of blasting up NYC and.....The game refuses to load. Have no fear, lots of issues with the Demo were reported around the web. It seems the developers are already on it and hope to have some fixes out very soon. This is what BETAs are for after all.
"In a short statement, Crytek downplayed the number of complaints, saying that the technical problems were limited to just a few people. It thanked players - or would-be players in some cases - for their patience and support and said that it was working hard on fixing the problems. With the demo ending in just over a week, however, Crytek will have to move pretty quickly to get these bugs resolved in time."

Facebook Hacked Again, This time they did something.
Published: Thursday, January 27, 2011 | By: JimWhen you run a site as big as facebook. You paint a huge target on your back for hackers. People breaking into Facebook and other large sites is not new and rarely gets a response, but hack the Billionaire C.E.O.s account and you can bet changes will be swift.
Effective immediately, users are able to view Facebook through HTTPS, which essentially creates an instantly secured connection over an otherwise insecure network. This will help eliminate password stealing while users browse on public wireless networks, a huge contributor to the volume of personal account hacks. Be warned: What you gain in security, you may lose in speed, as HTTPS can sometimes dramatically decrease your page loading time. Switch the feature on via your Account Settings page. -
Team Ninjalane now ranked 8th in the US on HWBot
Published: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 | By: DennisIt has been a struggle but Team Ninjalane is now ranked 8th of all US based overclocking teams on HWBot. This is a win on so many levels especially considering that our team is actually quite small.
If you are curious about overclocking stop by the forums and ask a question or two. Points on HWBot change daily and this will likely NOT be our last charge, in fact I have a personal vendetta to take down the Asus team, so watch out, I'm coming for you!

NVIDIA Tegra 3, equipped with 1.5GHz quad-core slide
Published: Monday, January 24, 2011 | By: DeanIs Tegra 3 right around the corner?

It's not every day you hear of a 1.5GHz quad-core mobile SOC, but our discovery of corroborating evidence for the T25 module sitting alongside it makes us more willing to credit the possibility of a Blu-ray-crunching, 13,800 MIPS-capable, multicore Cortex-A9 Tegra 3. Moreover, the roadmap of production samples in Q4 of 2010 fits perfectly with NVIDIA's claim that Tegra 3 was "almost done" in September of that year.
If Nvidia stays on track, we could see Tegra 3 in the fall.

China's J-20 stealth fighter: "design is 25 years old"
Published: Sunday, January 23, 2011 | By: DennisThis is not really "tech" news but is actually of great interest to me. It all started at around the time when the US decided to cut funding the F-22 Raptor and halt production. From a budget standpoint doing this seems like a good idea however doing so shows that the US is no longer interested in enforcing their world power status and would rather wait for the rest of the world to catch up.
Well, catching up they shall do. The first on the list is a primary shareholder in the US economy, China. While they are several years away from production the fact they are trying tells us something big is on the horizon.
For the most part, China's combat aircraft programme has lagged behind its competitors in the west and Russia.
China's fourth-generation combat jet, the J-10, appeared in 2006 – but experts say it compares with western aircraft that went into production two decades ago. Beijing has also struggled to develop the Shenyang J-15 carrier-borne jet, reverse-engineered from the Russian-made Sukhoi 33.The thing I really like about this posting is how Russia is now reluctant to send supplies to China in fear that they will start cloning their parts and sell them at a reduced rate.

China's stealth fighter "based on US technology"
Published: Sunday, January 23, 2011 | By: DennisRaise your hand if you saw this coming?

Now, the Admiral who was Croatia's chief of staff during the Kosovo War has said he believes that China formulated the technology for its J-20 jet from an American F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter that was shot down over Serbia in March 1999.
It would seem that China had been buying up parts of the downed plane to discover how the plane did what it did. I guess gleaning information off of the web was too complicated.

GBU Larkooler Extreme Performance G1/4” Liquid Cooling Kit @ PureOverclock
Published: Sunday, January 23, 2011 | By: Dennis1/4" coolers are generally plagued with limited cooling capacity but are usually a good replacement for noisy aircoolers. Especially when your budget doesn't allow for a larger more custom watercooling kit.
GBU has introduced a new DIY water cooling kit called the Larkooler Extreme Performance G1/4" (KU3-241) Liquid Cooling System. The new system employs a better pump and block, bigger tubing, and supports standard G1/4" threads. It looks gorgeous, so let's check out the performance.
Temps are a little warm for my tastes but the kit looks pretty good.
