Intel To Acquire Havok

SANTA CLARA,Calif., Sept. 14, 2007 – Intel Corporation today announced it hassigned a definitive agreement to acquire Havok Inc., the leadingprovider of interactive software and services used by digital mediacreators in the game and movie industries. Havok will become a whollyowned subsidiary of Intel.
The acquisition will enable developers in the digital animation andgame communities to take advantage of Intel's innovation and technologyleadership in the creation of digital media.
"Havok is a proven leader in physics technology for gaming anddigital content, and will become a key element of Intel's visualcomputing and graphics efforts," said Renee J. James, vice presidentand general manager of Intel's Software and Solutions Group. "Havokwill operate its business as usual, which will allow them to continuedeveloping products that are offered across all platforms in theindustry." -
Leet Dictionary Updated
Published: Sunday, September 16, 2007 | By: DennisThanks to some Goth kid chatter in a forum on the interweb I was able to update the Leet Dictionary with some new leet words that I never considered before. For those of you that don't know the |33+ dictionary is a small collection of "real" leet words that have been passed down over the years and collected for all to enjoy.
The character translations are "suggestions" but do cover the spectrum.
If anyone out there sees some stuff that should be added to this please drop us a line and we'll update the list. Once the Ninjalane Membership system goes online we'll open the dictionary up in a wiki style so others can contribute as they see fit. -

Nvidia to end Designed by Nvidia motherboard standardization scheme

Although Nvidia was expected by motherboard makers to cutinto the motherboard market with its "Designed by Nvidia" scheme, DrewHenry, general manager of MCP business at Nvidia recently came toTaiwan to clear the speculation in the market, while promoting thecompany's upcoming MCP 73 chipsets.
Nvidia pushed thestandardized motherboard specification to assist makers in savingcosts, pointed out Henry. It could help makers with fewer researchresources to launch products quicker, while the more capable makerswould be able to add their own exclusive functions to differentiatethemselves in the market. However, many makers were confused by thescheme, and therefore Nvidia has decided to stop using it, but thestrategy of pushing standardized motherboard and graphics cards willcontinue. -

You see most "home" servers are northing more than reclaimed workstations and the reclaimed nature goes hand in hand with "old". Needless to say we need more storage space and they have pretty much reached their capacity.
The plan is for a multi-disk TB system but with single TB disks on the market, why stop at one.
It wasn't that long ago that Hitachi was the first the reach the 500GBsingle hard drive milestone, and with the release of the 7k1000,Hitachi retains the capacity crown, also becoming the first to pack1000 gigabytes into a single drive. But it's not always about finishingfirst (ask any woman), the performance has to be there too. JoinHardwareLogic as we throw the 7k1000 into our testbed and see if itperforms as big as it's capacity. -

A-DATA is joining the band wagon of 1200MHz memory with their Extreme Edition memory. Many manufacturers havedisplayed memory at these speeds at Computex this year. The kits areavailable in 1 or 2 GB variants and come with the new, cleanerheatspreader. This Extreme Edition memory is the first to manage 1200MHz at default voltage with no problems at all. -
