  • Intel officially cuts desktop CPU prices

Published: Friday, July 28, 2006 | By: Dennis

Prices have been declining at a steady pace over the past few months most likely due to retailer markup, this of course is "official" happy smile
"Intel has officially announced its desktop processor price reductions that had been expected since the middle of the second quarter.

Although most processor models saw their prices being slashed, several processors did not have their price changed, including the LGA-775 Intel Pentium Extreme Edition (965 and 955), Pentium D (840 and 830), Pentium 4 (670, 660, 650, 641, 571, 561, 551, 521) and the MPGA-478 Celeron D (335, 330).

The chip giant also included new models in its pricing list including the Pentium D 805 and 945 and the Pentium 4 524.

In addition, Intel resumed offering several processors that it had previously removed from its pricing list and roadmap, including the LGA-775 Celeron D 326 (256k L2 cache, 2.53GHz, 533MHz FSB, 90nm) and MPGA-478 Celeron 315 (256k L2 cache, 2.26GHz, 533MHz FSB, 90nm)*"

I guess putting two GPUs on the same board didn't look as cool as slapping two complete video cards together. wink smile
"XFX has always had overclocked versions of their products for those who want that extra performance without getting their hands dirty. So it was only a matter of time before its overclocked GeForce 7950 GX2 hit the market. Read on to find out how much more performance you can expect to find."

Notice the RED PCB?? yep thats a Gainward signature item rebranded under the Palit banner.
"In the enthusiast area people began to hear the name Palit pop up more and more once they acquired Gainward as well as taking over XpertVision’s retail business. While Gainward have always introduced overclocked models, it seems that this influence has filtered down to the Palit series"

  • Abit and DFI tackle ATI's CrossFire Xpress 3200 @ TechReport

Published: Saturday, July 8, 2006 | By: Dennis

"Looking back, the timeline of Abit's decline nearly matches the rise of DFI. For years, DFI was best known for OEM and industrial products, but recently it's built a series of exceptional enthusiast-oriented LANParty boards. Those boards have offered unique designs, plenty of BIOS options, and a penchant for running at higher-than-stock speeds that's made them particularly popular among overclockers.

With some calling DFI the new Abit, we thought it only fitting to pit these two companies' latest Athlon 64 motherboards against each other head to head. Can the LANParty UT CFX3200-DR continue DFI's streak of killer Athlon 64 mobos, or will Abit's AT8 32X rise like a Phoenix to retake the enthusiast motherboard crown?"

Come to think of it... this is very true.

  • ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard Review @ Legit Reviews

Published: Saturday, July 8, 2006 | By: Dennis

Everything is being certified these days, it kind of makes you wonder if the chipset mfg has any control over who they sell their product to and if there is any support after the sale.
"Today Legit Reviews takes a look at the ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard, which is the first and only CrossFire Xpress 3200 chipset board that is certified by ATI Technologies Certification Program. When you are looking to buy an ATI chipset motherboard make sure the symbol below is on the box!"
Sorry no symobol posting but if you check out the review not only will you find a badass black PCB but a ULI south bridge.

Bargain bin mix and match? or ATI certification based on usage of competitor products? You decide. wink smileapprove smile

  • ASRock AM2V890-VSTA (VIA K8T890 CF) @ Hardware Zone

Published: Saturday, July 8, 2006 | By: Dennis

    This board looks soooooo retro.
"AMD's Socket AM2 launch is now water under the bridge and we've seen a fair share of new motherboard designs based on NVIDIA's new nForce 500 series of chipsets. However, budget motherboard maker ASRock has been busy retrofitting older Athlon 64 chipsets to the AM2 socket. Today, we take a look at the AM2V890-VSTA, which is based on a mature VIA K8T890 chipset ? with a twist. "

  • Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20 Inch LCD Monitor Review @ Tweaknews

Published: Saturday, July 8, 2006 | By: Dennis

Monitor reviews never really make the news posting cut but I've had personal experience with this monitor and I must say it is da bomb. Great visuals, good color rendering, great contrast, and 1600x1200 native resolution!
"This monitor is perfect for the home user or the performance gaming enthusiast looking for a cost effective LCD monitor option that does not skimp on the specification list. Sure it isn't the most attractive LCD monitor made by Samsung or by any other manufacturer, by what it lacks in form it makes up in function."
I'm fixing to be hooked up with 2 of these bad boys in the near future, though in black trim as that is the only "real" LCD monitor color.

  • Western Digital Caviar RE2 – Tweaked RAID 0 storage @ Tweaktown

Published: Saturday, July 8, 2006 | By: Dennis

RAID 0 is the way to go if you are looking for raw speed and maximum storage capacity. Personally I'm a major fan of the 2x Raptor RAID 0.
"Western Digital has recently introduced a new hard disk drive to the market. It’s dubbed the Caviar RAID Edition or RE2 for short. It is tweaked and designed to offer the best performance when setup in a RAID configuration environment. We’ll take a quick look at the drive and then see how it performs against one of Seagate’s latest hard drives in RAID and non-RAID testing."
Based on the review the Caviar RE2 is just a Hot Rod in the HDD space, whereas the Raptor is the blown door slammer. wink smile

  • nVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 Quad SLI @ MadboxPC

Published: Saturday, July 8, 2006 | By: Dennis

"Some months ago we announced the last nVIDIA Hight End videocards (Geforce 7950 GX2), today we are proud to present/display the first QUAD SLI review (in Spanish language). This powerful videocards can be used even doing Quad SLI, and makes them the most interesting videocards arrange at this time. See them against a 7900GTX (Solo) and 2x 7900GT (SLI), and you also will see them under overclocked settings only at MadboxPC"
Quad SLI, the concept sounds cool but just imagine how much horsepower you'll need to push that many pixelsshock smile, Then again thats the whole point. tongue smile
