  • DFI rides high on strong ACP sales

Published: Wednesday, October 12, 2005 | By: Dennis

"With customers in the US, Japan and Australia, contribution from the gaming-use segment will climb to 25-30% of DFI’s ACP motherboard sales in 2006, up from 9% at present, Lu stated.

The Chinese-language Commercial Times indicated that DFI’s major customers for ACP motherboards are IBM, International Game Technology, Motorola, NCR, and Toshiba.

In addition, DFI expects sales of its high-end LANParty and Infinity motherboard series to grow 50% on year next year, according to Lu. The company has offered its first motherboard that follows the EU's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation, the 945G-TMGF for the Intel Pentium 4 platform."

Monster card indeed! I almost want one wink smile
"A big bugger I think you'll agree, and one that won't readily fit in a range of ATX chassis models. The power connector, loose on shipping, needs to be bent round and fed into the regular 6-pin power connector so that the feed from the supplied external power supply can make it into the board."

  • Centon Advanced A2X1GS3200LLE PC3200 2GB Dual Channel Kit @ InsaneTek

Now here is some pretty sweet looking RAM modules, I think the only thing that might be better is a Red PCB and vented copper heat spreader, ohh and maybe some red LEDs shining thru the vents.
"Centon's new packaging comes with a clam shell with a catchy design for their insert. The revamped DDR Advanced line comes with copper heatspreaders in a glossy white finish. I have been waiting a long time to see some white heatspreaders. It looks just like Apple! The black PCB is the infamous Brainpower 808. Such a combination is so sexy, isn't it?"
I'm sure our resident Mac expert Talon will like to get a par of these for his Mac. tongue smile

  • CrossFire: The Biggest Vaporware of the Year?

Published: Thursday, October 6, 2005 | By: Dennis

I caught a little bit of the "crying like a little girl with a skinned knee and shit" ranting over at HardOCP. I tend to agree when it comes to paper vs product launches because really it only hurts the company making the claims.
"Well, these are the facts. And how about CrossFire? When will it arrive? Nobody knows for sure. Kyle says November. If is that so, ATI will be one year delayed to the party. With nVidia having 90% of AMD discrete motherboard market share, ATI will face a really hard time to stand up and
gain market share after being burned that way. Frankly, for me ATI today is like a flying saucer: there are people that say that have seen one, but at the end it is a matter of believing it or not. My badge reads “skeptic”. I only believe on CrossFire after it really arrives at the stores."

Interesting how Kyle is quoted in this blog entry. I guess the skinned knee tactic is working. wink smile

  • PowerColor X800 GT EVO Liquid Cooled @ Bjorn3D

Published: Thursday, October 6, 2005 | By: Dennis

Gainward had a watercooled video card once, it was very expensive and performance wasn't that great do you think PowerColor can pull off doing something similar?
"Today we are looking at something special from PowerColor. Something overclockers will drool at. What if I told you we have a card equipped with its own liquid cooling system? That's right, it's the first card ever to be coupled with Thermaltake's TideWater system. No other AIB used this type of solution before. The card I'm referring to is PowerColor X800 GT EVO based on R480. Let me tell you, it rocks like crazy in our system! "

  • Creative X-Fi Sound Card Review @ AMD Review

Published: Thursday, October 6, 2005 | By: Dennis

I've been baggin on Creative for years now and I'm not about to stop however spec wise this card looks to be the bomb dizzl3
"Overall, this sound card rulez, and the fact I heard that made me want to review this card was that the Audigy2 had 4.6 million transistors of audio power and this new series has 51 million, thats huge, and that makes me a happier gamer.

I gave this card a 9 only because of what I have heard about the higher end versions, and it sounds like I am going to have to save the 10 for the Elite and Fatality versions."

  • Albatron K8SLI nForce 4 SLI Review @ OcPrices

Published: Thursday, October 6, 2005 | By: Dennis

This might be one of the shortest mobo reviews I've seen in a long time but the memory clock selections really caught my attention.
"As you can see, I was not kidding about the size. This board is smaller than a Hollywood actress on a hunger strike. That said, Albatron has still managed to squeeze on two standard PCI and two PCI-E slots (with one positioned above the top video card slot, which I like), two IDE and four SATA ports, two USB headers for a total of eight USB ports, a Realtek AC97 chip for 5.1 onboard audio, and finally a Vitesse CIS8201 chip for gigabit Ethernet. "
    Ummmm. ya..

  • Foxconn 955X7AA-8EKRS2 Review @ Digit-Life

Published: Wednesday, October 5, 2005 | By: Dennis

"The 955X7AA model is designed in traditional Foxconn red-black-white colors, packed in a very convenient box (which resembles a chest :)), made of pressboard with a magnet latch. The contents and the box design are well matched:"
Sadly only one photo of the packaging. sad smile
