  • Nvidia starts sampling Intel Nforce 5 chipset

Published: Friday, December 3, 2004 | By: Dennis

"TAIWAN HAS ALREADY seen the first batch of C19 chipsets and tier one motherboard manufacturers are playing with them as we speak. C19 is Nvidia's well kept code name for its Pentium 4 chipset project.

Without a doubt, it’s a Pentium 4 SLI capable chipset and it's already started shipping/sampling. R&D departments of tier one motherboard companies are playing with them and they should have some sample boards ready even now. "

big grin smileapprove smile I can't wait to see them though I wonder what the memory performance will be like.?

  • Intel to bundle Nvidia-based graphics cards

Published: Friday, December 3, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Under the plan, an Nvidia GeForce 6600GT-based graphics card will be bundled with an Intel D925XCV/BC, D925XECV2/BV2 or D915PBL/CY/CM motherboard. The bundled products are available at Intel’s licensed channel distributors, the sources said"
This is similar to the ATI deal back in the day but has a bigger impact since nVidia and Intel have a new licensing deal.

  • Albatron GeForce 6600 uses heatpipe cooling

Published: Friday, December 3, 2004 | By: Dennis

This is kind of a fancy cooler for a low-end video card but they get high-end results from it. happy smile
"Albatron chose to employ the standard version GeForce 6600 chipset on the PC6600U over the high-performing, luxury GeForce 6600GT chipset. The strategy was to take the low-cost road and then boost performance, providing customers with a powerful VGA card at a reasonable price tag. The result is a 6600-based card whose performance is almost comparable to that of 6600GT-based cards and significantly more powerful than that of other standard 6600 cards on the market. The PC6600U PCIe card is also SLI (Scalable Link Interface)-enabled."

  • Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 Motherboard Review @ PC Stats

Published: Thursday, December 2, 2004 | By: Dennis

This isn't a bad motherboard but during our review of the Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 we found that it couldn't outperform an equally equipped 754pin nForce3.
"The Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 is probably a case modder's dream motherboard to work on. Its midnight black PCB and colourful expansion slots, IDE/Floppy connectors, DIMMs and CPU retention bracket give it a distinctive appearance. The four DIMM slots can be occupied with up to 4GB of PC3200 unbuffered non ECC DDR RAM using a maximum of 1GB DIMMs in each slot. That should be enough for even the most hardcore of users. ;-)"
I still applaud Soltek for their creation; it's a good solid board at the right price for just about anyone.

  • Radeon X850 XT PE Review @ Beyond3D

Published: Thursday, December 2, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Being that there are few differences between Radeon X800 and X850, the newer R480 chip doesn't significantly differ from R423 that preceded it. As there are no major process differences ATI are limited in the gains they can make in this regards, which probably explains the fairly incremental increase in core clock speed."
*Gasp*! a factory overclocked chip?? perish the thought. tongue smile

Such a wacky intro. big grin smile
"We eat with our eyes or so they say. So having the most advanced graphics cards which offer high frame rates in your favourite games is wasted if you are using a 14" VGA nicotine coloured monitor with a screen curvature of your aunties glasses (AKA "A Fishbowl"). It's a bit like having strawberry jam sponge without the custard!"

  • Radeon X850 XT @ The Tech Report

Published: Wednesday, December 1, 2004 | By: Dennis

The ATI Radeon X850's were announced today and as you can guess the net is buzzing with information. The PE edition comes with a blower style cooler that vents out the back like the 5800. The Tech Report had this to say..
"Before you snort your coffee through your nose, rest assured that the Radeon X850 XT does not sound like a Dustbuster—or a GeForce 5800 Ultra, for that matter—in normal use. I have to admit, I was part bemused and part terrified when I first fired up a system with a Radeon X850 XT PE card in it. At boot time, that blower cranked up briefly to full speed, aurally evoking an Oreck XL."
I really like their subtitle for the review. "Canadian double-wide?" big grin smile

  • Supermicro P8SAA+ LGA775 - SLI??

Published: Wednesday, December 1, 2004 | By: Dennis

Altavista babblefish was able to extract the following from the article.
"As for "P8SAA+" with the unpublished product, as for the sample item which arrives at the same store really it does not operate. Because either the manual has not belonged, the detail specification which includes on-board chip set and, really SLI active kana is unclear, but the PCI Express x16 slot and the similar type slot 2 are prepared on the baseplate. Simply, near the PCI Express slot of secondary "PCI-E X4" there is also the print which can be grasped."
This isn't really an SLI enabled board but a server board with two PCIe slots for video cards.

  • Watercooling your 6800GT @ ModdersHQ

Published: Tuesday, November 30, 2004 | By: Dennis

Watercooling, the nVidia 6800, and you. For those that don't know where to start be sure to check out this little project article on the subject.
"Here we have the collection of parts needed to get the job done. The MCW-50 waterblock is not a direct fit onto the 6800 chipset, so the NV4045 adapter kit will be is needed. The square piece of metal just fits over the waterblock and attaches using screws provided with the kit. The holes in the plate lined up perfectly with the threaded holes on the block."
They are using the Gainward line of 6800's so yours might be slightly different.
