Published: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Future versions of the K8T890 Series will include the VIA DualGFX Express feature, a solution that stands ready to support all dual graphics card industry standards. The DualGFX Express provides enhanced single application performance with supporting graphics cards and multi-monitor support."
Not sure exactly what DualGFX stands for but it seems to imply dual graphic card support.

  • No price cuts for Intel LGA 775

Published: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

When the industry is slow to adapt to new technology, what is the best way to force the issue??? Yep, reduce supply.
"According to the sources, Intel was also reducing its supply of Socket 478 Pentium 4 and 865 chipsets, in order to push migration to the LGA 775 platform."

  • Microsoft Reveals Licensing Plans for Dual-Core Chips

Published: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Microsoft Corp. does not plan to change its per-processor software licensing model when hardware containing dual-core and multicore processor technology for the Windows platform becomes available next year."
This should make things a little cheaper for us peeps on the leading edge.

  • nForce4 Press Day

Published: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

nVidia released info on their next chipset for the Athlon64 dubbed the nForce4. From what I've read the nForce4 isn't much more than a upgraded nForce3. The major upgrade points are with the addition of PCI Express and nVidia SLI. Chances are we won't be seeing any boards based on the nForce4 anytime this year and with how PCI Express video card production is going I wouldn't expect to see to many SLI enabled boards until sometime after retail boards hit the shelves.

    - nForce4 @ neoseeker
    - nForce4 @ ViperLair
    - nForce4 @ Hot Hardware
    - nForce4 @ HardOCP

Aside from this news posting there isn't any nForce4 action at Ninjalane though when retail samples come out I'd expect a fair share of them. happy smile

I'm all LOL over that one. big grin smile

  • Dual Core CPU's Part Deux @ DataFuse

Published: Monday, October 18, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Now, if you read the previous article you'll probably spot the confusion with the now twin L2 core. In the previous article I stated Intel will use the CMP (Chip Multi Processing) architecture. This is when they place two cores together and have them sharing the Caches. Intel won't use this solution since it will be too expensive to manufacture as a desktop solution chip."
Some good stuff in this article provided you are interested.

  • Seagate Savvio SCSI HDD @ The Tech Report

Published: Friday, October 15, 2004 | By: Dennis

High speed laptop sized HDDs in SCSI clothing. big grin smile I think you can imagine the possibilities this drive unfolds.
"As a small form factor enthusiast with a soft spot for SCSI, I couldn't let Savvio go unscrutinized. I've run one of these tiny drives through our usual gauntlet of storage tests against five full-size 10K-RPM alternatives. The results are both surprising and inspiring. Read on to see how well the Savvio stacks up."
According to the graphs the drive appears to be a little faster than the Raptor and slower than full sized SCSI drive.

  • NVIDIA nForce3 250 Motherboard Shootout @ HardwareZone

Published: Friday, October 15, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Now, if you're confused about the different offerings of the nForce3 chipset, we don't blame you. In fact, we really hate the way NVIDIA segment their MCP products, so much so that there isn't a clear distinction between all of these products. Even their technical specifications were vaguely posted in their website. Here's a quick chart to help differentiate between the various nForce3 chipsets :-"
Most of the major players with boards in the retail sector are represented in this shootout including the Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR that we recently reviewed.

  • Netscape: Bowed, but not broken

Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The browser is not advancing because (Microsoft isn't) being challenged. I hope that someone does start to challenge them just to get Microsoft to invest in the browser again, but nobody could ever actually retake the crown. If Microsoft starts to feel some pressure, they will just crank up the spending again and crush whoever it is."
Yep I still use Netscape and aside from a few AOL ads during the install I have no issues with it at all.

Some people swear by IE, some people swear by Opera, some people swear at people not using what they use. In any event because of this nobody is seeing the same Internet the same way all the time.
