DFI LanParty UT 915P-T12 Review @ HardOCP
Published: Sunday, October 10, 2004 | By: DennisSometimes I actually wonder how much time they actually spend reviewing products coming from second tier companies.
"One thing that I did not like about this board was the absence of a BIOS watchdog function, meaning that if I made some settings in the BIOS that did not sit well with the motherboard, I would have to physically clear the CMOS in order for it to boot again. Companies such as ASUS, ABIT, and MSI have perfected this function, and I expect DFI to have done the same by now."
As you know we recently reviewed this very board and I can honestly say that many of things they claim in their conclusion are not reflective of how our sample board worked. For instance: I'm sure there are boards with Southbridge voltage adjustments though I have not ever seen one nor do I think adjusting the voltage would help any in overclocking. (I could be wrong on this point but I think the overclocking margin would be very very small). Likewise the quote I sampled from page 7 doesn't really make much sense either, whenever our sample board failed it would always post and allow for changes to occur without the need to reset the CMOS. This is different from many of the other boards I have used that completely reset things. If this is what he is talking about he obviously doesn't understand how CMOS reloaded works. -

"The 915P-T12 is loaded with many of the features that are expected on today's high performance motherboards, such as PCI Express, SATA, built-in audio, DDR 400 support, as well as two Gigabit Ethernet controllers and an interesting BIOS backup utility."
Be sure to check out our recent review of the LanPartyUT 915P-T12 and photos of the board under the black light! -
WaterChill CPU Cooler Antarctica (Socket T) @ Overclockers Online
Published: Friday, October 8, 2004 | By: DennisOne of the biggest problems with LGA775 watercooling is that there are currently no waterblocks that conform to the LGA775 keepout zones. This of course isn't a problem for all LGA775 boards but is something to keep in mind if you want to watercool your system.
"Today, we look into how well things perform on a Socket T setup, specifically the waterblock. With a new mounting design, asetek was required to design a new cover to allow proper mounting. That said, we've been given the opportunity to test this block's performance on a hot little Prescott thanks to that new Socket T cover."
Now with that said, stay tuned to this site, if all goes well a very special announcement will be made that should change everything.
BTW check out our review of the asetek Antarctica for comparison. -
Mac OSX on the Xbox
Published: Friday, October 8, 2004 | By: DennisX to the x to the X’addy X,X. Or, X for an X, in either instance OSX on the Xbox is pretty cool news. The mod also works on standard PCs using the PearPC process.
"You have software modded your Xbox and put Xebian Linux on it. You have purchased a copy of Mac OS X and made an image of it."
Dang, no copy of Mac OS X but that problem can easily be solved.

Getting a Leg Up on 802.11n
Published: Friday, October 8, 2004 | By: DennisThe alphabet soup that we call wireless and while the letters keep changing it is still annoying that many cordless phones kill the network connection.
"We tested an early production sample of the Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router, and were impressed with the speed and range benefits 802.11n technology promises. (Though not tested here, pre-802.11n and, eventually, actual 802.11n products are designed to be backward compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g products.) A potential downside: pre-standard products are not guaranteed to work with later 802.11n devices that come out." -
SiS makes inroads into AMD chipset market
Published: Friday, October 8, 2004 | By: DennisI was beginning to wonder what happened to SiS, they are usually the first on the scene when new technology breaks.
"Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) is making inroads into the AMD chipset market and will increase its efforts by releasing a number of PCI Express (PCIe) chipsets for the AMD K8 platform, beginning in November, according to the company.
SiS claims it ranks second in market share in both the Intel and AMD chipset market, and its goal is to become the number-one producer of AMD chipsets. Currently, VIA is the market leader in the AMD segment." -

In addition, Nvidia’s shipments of GeForce 6800 and 6800Ultra chipsets were erratic, the sources noted."
