Yeong Yang 5603 Mars Case Review @ PimpRig
Published: Thursday, April 29, 2004 | By: DennisNice looking case, though something seems to be missing.
"YY wanted us to know the packaging was strictly a “sample only”, box and not the final packaging. I’m sure they’ll come up with some kind of graphic to attract customers and beautify dumpsters. Personally, I think double boxing looks very attractive. Of course I’ve been emotionally scarred at the sight of a mirror finish black WaveMaster with its side panel viscously dented in and may not be the best judge of that."
Its what is inside that counts.
Seriously though we all hate it when things get broken along the way but if you are all hung up on how many ply's the cardboard is you have too much time on your hands. -
No Joy for 98 and ME
Published: Thursday, April 29, 2004 | By: Dennis"Intel said it won't have any drivers for future Grantsdale/Alderwood chipsets. I think it's about time to use its commercial names, 925P and 915P for discrete and 915G for the one with integrated graphics."
Those buggers! It would appear that the reasons behind this surprise move are based on Microsoft support, or the lack thereof. Intel figures that since Microsoft has disbanded DOS based OS's they can do the same.
I'm going to venture a guess saying that Linux will also be unsupported since Microsoft has disbanded that OS as well.

Albatron GeForce FX5700P Turbo Review @ 3DXtreme
Published: Wednesday, April 28, 2004 | By: Dennis"A closer look at the video card itself shows a pretty normal design on a blue PCB. Albatron has provided a nice looking cooler for this GPU and ram sinks to keep things cool. As mentioned in the introduction, this video card is designed around a 6 layer PCB which helps to decrease noise and increase the stability of operation."
Two pages of video card review goodness, how much you wanna bet that the majority of readers only read 3 lines. -
Radeon X800 Pro/XT Pre - Review
Published: Tuesday, April 27, 2004 | By: DennisThe forum thread is in German but I think everyone can read the numbers on the charts. I have no idea if this stuff is real but I have a feeling that someone will come forth with the truth fairly soon.
If what is being shown is true, the NV40 might be dead before its even on the shelves.
If you have comments feel free to send them in. -
AMD to introduce 32-bit K8
Published: Tuesday, April 27, 2004 | By: Dennis"Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) aims to strengthen its position in the entry-level processor market by introducing a 32-bit CPU, codenamed Athlon XP Paris, in the third quarter of this year, according to sources at Taiwanese motherboard makers.
The 754-pin Paris will be targeted for the desktop and will be fully based on the K8 micro-architecture, with 256KB of L2 cache, but will not support AMD64, i.e. x86-64 technology, said the sources.
With the introduction of the Athlon XP Paris, AMD’s existing Athlon XP Socket A/462 processors will be gradually phased out, the sources said." -

Asetek Antarctica WaterChill Review @ OverclockersClub
Published: Monday, April 26, 2004 | By: Dennis"he Waterchill package is pretty darn big, about 2 feet in length, in fact. Made from a plastic corrugate (I believe) the package itself is fairly side, and all of our components are nestled securely inside wedged between two thick pieces of foam. Everything arrived safe and undamaged. "
I can attest to that, the box and WaterChill package is pretty big but works great.

Intel blames motherboard manufacturers for broken socket 775s
Published: Friday, April 23, 2004 | By: DennisI had a feeling something like this would happen.
" Intel has ordered manufacturers to use this new 775 socket and this time you have to place the CPU on top of the pins praying that all 775 pins actually touch the right connection on the 775 points of the Prescott.
It you do this correctly then everything is fine and dandy, but if not you can damage either the board or the CPU or both, we have learned."
