  • Soyo K8USA Dragon Ultra Review @ The Crucible

Published: Thursday, March 4, 2004 | By: Dennis

" Soyo is not a brand that I think of when I am looking for a high performance motherboad. While on paper they always look good, I have been disappointed by them in the past. Soyo is the only company that currently produces a motherboad based on the ALi M1687 north bridge. ALi again is not a company generally spoke of in the same breath with performance, unless there is a 'lack of' in the same sentence."
I could agree with everything that is said in the previous statement. Soyo had a very short-lived moment of fame with the DRAGON series back a few years ago. Since then the products have fallen off the map. Soyo still tries though, most of the new products feature fancy names and come with either black and silver PCBs.

Then again I can say that since nobody at Soyo ever returns my emails.

Ya ya I know, why the heck would you review a fan, well.... I dunno, though when the fan is extra quiet, thermally controlled, and clear you begin to wonder.

Rumor has it there is a 92mm version of this fan in the Ninjalane Labs, we'll let you know how it works out. wink smile

  • Shuttle SN85G4 XPC Review @ Overclockers Club

Published: Saturday, February 28, 2004 | By: Dennis

Athlon64 in a SFF bare bones package, not a bad way to satisfy your 64-bit urge.
"Shuttle decked out the SN85G4 in all black. Sporting a black front bezel with a beveled mirror plate insert. The side panel is made of black brushed aluminum with circular holes along the bottom on both sides to help intake cool air for the system."
Doesn't that sound a lot like a Soltek Qbic SFF box? ya thought so too.

  • Fish Aquarium + Watercooling Reservoir + Waterfall Mod @ AllHardwareZone

Published: Saturday, February 28, 2004 | By: Dennis

The building of a watercooling reservoir is not a difficult task to accomplish though it is advised to refrain from including live animals as part of your project, its just not right.
"These are the fish which were supposed to be in the final product. Sadly, when I returned back to school from break they were all dead. I even left one of those vacation feeders with them, but I guess it didn't work out (to clarify, they were not in my computer when they died...they were in another container as I realized beforehand that my creation would not be a fish friendly living environment)."

  • Western Digital Raptor WD740GD Review @ Hardware Zone

Published: Friday, February 27, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The Western Digital Raptor just got bigger, better and faster with the recent introduction of their latest 10,000RPM Raptor drive based on the latest Serial ATA interface. The previous Raptor had a smaller capacity of only 36GB while this latest predator is packed with double the amount of space. Known not so much of being a SATA drive for the average consumer, Western Digital is redefining this new range of drives for the enterprise environment."
However if you run a Raptor drive in your daily workstation be sure to get two and create yourself a nice RAID0. You will never look at disk arrays the same again. wink smile

  • Autodesk on the upswing

I'm going to guess that many of the Ninjalane readers could care less about this bit of news but I found it interesting.
"The company reported net income of $58 million, or 48 cents a share, for the quarter, which ended Jan. 31. That compares with $6 million, or 6 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Predictions from analysts polled by news service Reuters averaged 29 cents a share.

Revenue for the quarter was $295 million, up from $196 million a year ago. "
