  • IBM Deskstar 60GXP

Published: Saturday, April 28, 2001 | By: Dennis

All I can say is WOW! I knew that ATA100 was fast and heard the rumors of it rivaling SCSI but never found any benchmarks to support it. Until now, GamePC looked at the 60GXP, 75GXP, and the Seagate Cheetah X15, in a variety of benchmark tests. Not only does the 60GXP hold its own against the Cheetah but does so quietly.

I don't know about you but there is just something about SCSI drives and their chugging that is just harmonious, that is until they start to give off that high-pitched squeal.

Those of you that know my background will understand why I find an interest in this topic. Though the writer of this article did a very poor job, it still is informative. This article does touch on some of the aspects that I looked at while reviewing the Freeway FWD-P3C4XD motherboard, so consider yourself informed.

  • Could Win2k become like WinXP?

Published: Thursday, April 26, 2001 | By: Dennis

The tech-report thinks so, after installing IE6 they found that some new registry keys where added during the process.
Not sure how substantial this is though I suspect the key was added not to enable the XP protection on 2000 but more for compatibility with WinXP.

  • What CPU is best for the GeForce3

Published: Thursday, April 26, 2001 | By: Dennis

There has been an age-old debate on what processor is better. I believe the decision depends largely on what you are doing. For instance typical gaming systems have different demands than say a 3dsmax animation workstation.

With all things aside, the decision on what processor to choose may not be that big of a deal take a look at the latest benchmarks at the techzone and you will see my point.

Anandtech takes an interesting look at the Pentium 4. Though a series of benchmarks he compares this processor to the Athlon (1.33Ghz and 1.0Ghz) and Pentium 3 (1.0Ghz) processors. If you where ever curious about the P4 I'd say take a look.

  • Hercules Kyro II Review @ HardAvenue

Published: Monday, April 23, 2001 | By: Dennis

Kyle at the infamiously non-NS6 friendly site [H]ard|OCP was complaining that everyone but him has gotten a Kyro II card to review. I can't say I feel sorry for him.

The review is pretty good though from the benchmarks that I've seen on other sites I'm starting to wonder if this card's performance scales differently on different processors.

I thought I would post something fun today for all of the people like me that are not l33t. I’ve made up a simple character conversion dictionary so that you can better understand how l33t is written. Plus, i’ve included a list of common l33t words and phrases.
I'm not sure how valuable this stuff will be but you never know when it might come in handy.

  • Get Gray Hair if you use Windows2k

Published: Friday, April 20, 2001 | By: Dennis

Believe this or not, copied directly from Microsoft.

If a user group contains more than 500 users, the hair color of the "person" icon for the group changes to gray. This does not affect the functionality of the group or the users for whom the hair color of the icon changes. This issue affects built-in groups, local groups, and global groups.
