New Motherboards from Tyan
Published: Friday, February 2, 2001 | By: DennisTwo new motherboards form Tyan will be hitting the streets soon.
The Tiger 230, Designed for the Entry-Level Workstation market.
The Tiger 200, Targeted at Entry-Level Desktops and Rackmount Servers.
A while back we posted a link to some "sneak-peak" photos and specs of these two boards, and both seem to be very similar in design and features. The 230 takes after the VP6 in style and design. The 200 on the other hand looks to be FWD-P3C4XD with some extra features. -
Nvidia Powered Laptop
Published: Wednesday, January 31, 2001 | By: DennisFinally a high-end graphics chip has made it into the laptop market. Rumor had it that the MX chip was a prototype design for laptops that never made it to the market. Though the time and research has paid off. "GeForce2 Go" is the power behind this new video chip for laptops; I can't wait to see it in person.

Iwill DVD266-R Review
Published: Tuesday, January 30, 2001 | By: DennisI like looking at these engineering sample reviews. They show the potentional, and downfalls of a new product. It also gives us, the consumer, a chance to decide if we need to start saving up for a new motherboard or not.

LAN Parties and Dates
Published: Sunday, January 28, 2001 | By: DennisI think some common sense would play into this situation. Though ask yourself would you take a date, girlfriend, and wife to a LAN party with all of your buds? I think if you do at least provide her with a computer.
I especially like J.C. Armack's response. -

Dualies abound
Published: Thursday, January 25, 2001 | By: DennisEveryone is going to think I am from a far away land with all of the links to .jp and .tw sites, I assure you that I am not. Any event this site contains some very interesting photos on what's to come in the world of hardware. Check out the Dual Athlon from Tyan. Obviously this board is meant for a rackmount applications but who knows a little tweak here a twist there.

Iwill Dual PIII DDR motherboard
Published: Sunday, January 21, 2001 | By: DennisWith all the hype behind DDR here is a positive review for the use of DDR memory. Compare this review to the FWD-P3C4XD review that we did. They used the same processors, and the same version of SiSoft Sandra. You can see quite a little gain over even the Intel chipset.
One thing is for sure, the Via 133A chipset isn't really that good. -
DDR: The Disappointment?
Published: Saturday, January 20, 2001 | By: DennisViahardware posted an article on DDR and how it isn't really the greatest memory platform when used on a motherboard. You can see by the Freeway FWD-P3C4XD review that when the FSB is over clocked to 160Mhz the memory performance was equal to that of a Dual 1Ghz Pentium on a i840 board without using DDR memory. Until processor mfg. Increase the default FSB I do not believe we will see any huge gains in memory performance between SDRAM and DDR.
Now DDR on video cards, that is a different story. Quake3 in high res. is the only way to frag.
