After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Board Features and Layout

Intel has changed their processor package every few years to keep up with growing technology demands and the LGA775 Socket T is their latest version. The new processor design features a reversal in typical chip design where the interface pins are located in the processor socket instead of on the chip. Care should be taken when installing the processor to ensure that none of the pins are damaged since it can ruin the motherboard.
The new Intel chipsets have replaced the AGP port with PCI Express; several PCI Express lanes are available with 19 set aside for expansion cards.
It may not look like it but the SL-915GPro-FGR comes with a 4-phase power supply. The design is a little different from what you will find on other i915 enabled motherboards but doesn't appear to have any major flaws.
ATX power comes in the form of a standard 20pin power connector and the standard 12v 4-pin plug. This is something to make note of when upgrading since many i915 boards require the new 24pin ATX power connector to run properly.
Another feature that you will not find on just any Grantsdale (915) motherboard is 4 DDR1 memory slots; typically this is split into 2 slots for DDR1 and two for DDR2 but instead all 4 are available giving the user support for the maximum 4GB of memory.
Both North and South bridges are passively cooled but are removable in the case that an alternative cooling method is desired. Those using watercoolers will be happy to know that this board does not come with heatsink mounting loops.
