After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Board Layout and Features

As was mentioned before the motherboard is laid out in a very familiar way that has actually become quite common as far as motherboard designs go. Personally we like to see the memory slots across the top of the motherboard as this places the processor in the middle of the motherboard and better air circulation.
The supported memory platform is 240pin DDR2 with a maximum capacity of 8GB across 4 memory slots. For best performance install matched memory pairs next to each other starting with the slot closest to the processor.
Back in the early days Diamond sold a modem that was actually two modems in one and if you had access to two dialup accounts you could "shotgun" the connections together for twice the download speed. Sadly the modem and service required to "shotgun" the connection was very expensive so it never really caught on. nVidia is doing something similar with their DualNet technology by using two gigabit network controllers. The advantage can be seen in network servers that experience a lot of network traffic or when you need to move a ton of data in the shortest time possible.
The Foxconn N57SM2AA also features a nice balance of additional features such as

8 channel audio with digital connections,
FoxOne, the Foxconn overclocking and tuning package,
2 16x PCIe slots for a variety of uses including SLI,
8 SATAII ports including one on the ATX connector,
    10 USB2 ports,
    2 Firewire ports,
    2, PCIe 1x slots and
2 regular PCI slots which can be used for old school SLI using the Voodoo 2.
For a complete list of specs including BIOS and driver downloads please consult the Foxconn Website.
