After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Product Layout and Features

In terms of size the Toughpower XT 775 is slightly smaller than a Corsair HX850 making it more of a traditionally sized PSU and able to fit most every chassis on the market.
This is a typical modular power supply with several power leads being hardwired to the PSU.  Overclockers and power Zealots prefer the hardwired approach since it removes an unnecessary connection that could otherwise effect power delivery.  The attached cables are minimal and only include the 24pin ATX power plug and 2x 8pin12v CPU power connectors.

The remaining connections are completely modular.
The Toughpower XT 775W is a single rail unit with a total RMS power output of 775W.  According to the power specifications 768W comes over the 12v with the remainder being divided across the +5V and +3.3V rails.

Another interesting thing to notice is the actual power rating.  Most mfgs rate their PSUs on 50W increments. (ie 600W, 650W, 850W, etc..)  The new Toughpower XT series is designed to provide 25W more power over the competition and thus giving you a little more power to use when upgrading.

This power supply carries an 80+ Bronze certification indicating that the PSU has been tested to be at least 82% efficient under a 100% load.  Thermaltake claims under normal loading the efficiency jumps to around 88% making the entire unit very cool and quiet.
