After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    A Closer Look

Almost all SSDs are in the 2.5" form factor making them good for virtually any computer installation whether it is a notebook or a desktop. In the package we see that OCZ has provided owners with a very nice adapter for mounting in a 3.5" standard HDD mounting location.  The bracket is made from steel and painted a nice glossy black and includes the OCZ technologies logo for a little flash.

I also liked the sticker they included "My SSD is faster than your HDD".  big grin smile
The drive casing is a textured black plastic which seems nice and very strong.  The bottom is brushed Stainless steel with the customary info stickers. Like all standard 2.5" drives it accommodates either bottom or side mounting attachments.
With the new Sandforce 1200 controller is a monster and its affect on performance is evident in the specs. Often rated speeds don't really pan out but in the case of SSD drives seek times of  >.1ms and exceptional read speeds make any task seem faster.

For example random 4k aligned showing up to 50k Ops per second and read speeds of 285MB/s and writes of up to 275 MB/s translates into some serious speed for any storage medium.  The new generation drives have nearly doubled speeds and managed to lower cost per GB at the same time.

Good news for all of us.
