After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Introduction

Pre-modded cases are pretty easy to come by these days. Most feature simple mods like side windows or custom paint but every so often you'll find one with lighted fans or some custom front bezel. While these cases look great on the outside they typically designed for the retail customer that wants something fancy but lacks the modding skillz to make it happen on their own.
Being one that enjoys the challenge of a good case mod I'm always on the lookout for a good case with some modding potential. For those familiar with my other case reviews you will know that they focus on modding aspects of a case and not really if there is proper clearance for a full-length motherboard. While these things are important we'll just assume that the company in question has done their homework and made sure that everything is in good working order.
In this review we will be looking at a new gaming case from Raidmax called the Samurai. This case has been in development for quite some time, our first glimpse of this new case was at Computex 2003. However due to some issues that don't need to be recanted the case was slightly redesigned to what you see below.
The case features 5x external 5.25 bays, 2x external 3.5 bays, and 3x internal 3.5 bays. Power and reset switches are located behind a hollow plastic door that operates with a simple inward push. Due to the design the door feels a little bulky but oftentimes that is the trade off to attain the look you are after.
Each Samurai gaming case comes with 2 front mounted USB and analog audio connections, you'll find them behind a hidden door at the bottom of the case.
