  • Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Case Review @ Hardware Secrets

Published: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 | By: Will

It is always a blast to see an old case get new life with a new revision. Trust me though this case is more than just a new revision Cooler Master as really listened to it's fans on this one. This comes straight from the Cooler Master guys.

"Cooler Master CM 690 is the most popular case from Cooler Master and because of its popularity the manufacturer decided to revamp it. The new version, called CM 690 II, will be available on stores this month and is available in two versions, "regular" (USD 80, a.k.a. RC-692-KKN3-GP) and "Advanced" (USD 100, a.k.a. RC-692-KKN2-GP). Let's see what is new and the differences between the two versions. "

I think this is going to be evem more popular than the first version.approve smile

  • Ninjalane CES Coverage Blog Style

Published: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 | By: Dennis

Hello there,  as you can imagine CES was crazy busy as usual and wouldn't you know it when we get back from the show there is even more to do.  Luckly I had a fellow reviewer with me this year and he has been able to post some CES details for you all to see.

Overall CES was great, attendance was up, however exhibits were down so there wasn't much to see on the actual show floor (as it relates to stuff we cover).  As it would turn out the majority of the stuff we cover could be found in the area hotel that almost takes a RSVP to find, but we were there! big grin smile

CES Coverage as seen by Will West
    - CES Day 1 Show Coverage
    - CES Day 2 Show Coverage
    - CES Day 3 Show Coverage
    - CES Day 4 Show Coverage
    - CES Day 5 Show Coverage

Traditional show coverage is still pending (as I still need to finish writing it up) so stay tuned.

You can also expect a short 2010 AEE (Adult Entertainment Expo) write up as well including some pics that Will wasn't brave enough to post wink smile

  • Intel Clarkdale vs AMD Phenom II with 785G – Mainstream Showdown @ Madshrimps

Published: Tuesday, January 12, 2010 | By: Will

Here is a neat little article hitting on a very strong subject for many people. Which processor is going to give me the best bang for my buck on a limited budget? This a tough one to even answer, but I'm sure this article will shed some light on the subject.

"With the launch of Clarkdale by Intel, they have finally released a Nehalem for the masses, the Core i3 and i5 variations with integrated graphics are a direct competitor to the market segment currently held by AMD Phenom and Athlon CPUs. In this article we compare the performance of the IGP on the Intel Core i5 661 to and AMD system with 785G chipset."

Typing these things out while still being very tired from the trip sucks.big grin smile

  • Soda fountains contained fecal bacteria, study found

Published: Monday, January 11, 2010 | By: Dennis

For those that know me I am a HUGE Pepsi drinker, normally my soda intake comes from bottles and cans but lunch normally consists of a fountain drink.  Some of the places around here take really poor care of their soda machines; in fact a Quiznoe's near my work tastes like mildew more than soda.  If that can happen then it's no far stretch to find shit in there too.

Nearly half of the 90 beverages from soda fountain machines in one area in Virginia tested positive for coliform bacteria -- which could indicate possible fecal contamination, according to a study published in the January issue of International Journal of Food Microbiology.

So what can you do about that??  Well for those of you that have worked in a restaurant before think about how the company cleans their soda fountains.  In most cases they just pull the nozzles out and soak them in soda water.  Not really a cleaning process much less disinfection.

  • CES Show Attendance Rebounds After Dip in 2009

Published: Monday, January 11, 2010 | By: Dennis

The premise of this article is that because attendance was up at CES this year the economy is getting better.  However despite this company attendance was down quite a bit and the quality of the exhibits was also down.

    In fact everything was down.

Case in point: There are several perks that members of the media get when attending CES and one of them is a press luncheon that usually consists of a sack lunch of goodies.  It's not much but a nice touch.

In the past there have always plenty of these lunch boxes and in some cases extras left over well after the close of the luncheon.  However this year the lunches sold out early, like on the order of 15-20 min.  While this article claims attendance was up (which I can attest to) the show budget was down based on the fact that many perks the media members normally get at CES were taken away.

The CEA said more than 2,500 companies exhibited at the show, a figure that would be down from the 2,700 that came last year. Press and blogger attendance may also have been down significantly, from 6,000 last year to somewhere north of 5,000 this year.

It is funny how inaccurate assumptions can be when looking at numbers.  Companies send media folks to cover various events, if media numbers are down and exhibits are down no increased number of attendees will change the fact that there is less to see.

Heck based on how weak the show was this year I suspect many people will not bother to return next year.

  • CES 2k10 show coverage from around the web

Published: Sunday, January 10, 2010 | By: Dennis

As you may have guessed we are here in Las Vegas attending the annual Consumer Electronics Show and so far having a great time.

CES is considerably smaller than it was in previous years; the Sands Expo center was closed down with all exhibits being moved to LVCC (the convention center).  Even with the consolidation there are still empty spaces on the show floor, in fact an entire section of the South Hall laid vacant whereas in previous years it was completely wall to wall.

Overall the show has given us a great opportunity to meet with manufactures and other website editors face to face.  Of course these meet and greets normally run quite smoothly however there are always instances where that is not always the case.  Those of you following me on Facebook will be familiar with a pre-CES posting I made related to this fact.

Be sure to check out our show coverage, much like before the article will be written and broken down by day with the highlights of that day being explained with photos attached.  This year also marked the first time the Ninjalane crew was not an army of one.  This not only helped us cover more ground but also made the day more enjoyable.

  • CES: ASUS NX90 Bang & Olufsen ICEpower Notebook: A Duet of Style and Sonority

Published: Tuesday, January 5, 2010 | By: Dennis

One of the benefits of getting to CES early is that you get to partake of some of the pre-show press releases.  On the surface these press conferences are extremely boring but they help to explain some of the stuff that we all get to see when the show actually starts.

One of the coolest items they had announced is this laptop and is really more than a desktop replacement for the home that is not only convenient but brings style into the mix as well.

ASUS NX90 Bang & Olufsen ICEpower Notebook: A Duet of Style and Sonority
Atelier craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology seamlessly meld together in the luxurious ASUS NX90 Bang & Olufsen ICEpower notebook. Designed by award-winning B&O Chief Designer David Lewis, the NX90 is a study in sublime contrasts, featuring a polished aluminum exterior and palm rest that match beautifully to the matte-black keyboard and dual touchpads. Two speakers featuring ICEpower technology flank a display reminiscent of high-end consumer flat screen televisions. Exclusive Sonic Focus technology helps to ensure that all audio is reproduced as flawlessly as possible. The NX90 also offers a unique way to interact with the system, in the form of dual touch pads. These work in concert with the Rotation Desktop software to provide users with an intuitive DJ-like control.

This is by far one of the coolest things I have seen in terms of a laptop for the home. cool smile

  • Clash of the Drivers @ InsideHW

Published: Tuesday, January 5, 2010 | By: Will

Here is some info to read for you guys that love to jump onto the newest drivers out there. You might want to stop and think about it first to see if is really going to help you out. This little article will give you some idea on what your looking for.

Therefore, the advice of keeping the video drivers always up to date, which can be heard in the circles of enthusiasts, should be taken with caution: depending on the generation of card you use and the games that you play most often, the gain in speed will often be indistinguishable, and it's not impossible to see a performance drop.

    Enjoy!tongue smile

  • Intel's Core i3/i5 and Core Mobile processors reviewed @ TR

Published: Monday, January 4, 2010 | By: Will

The mobile Core i3/i5 are showing up and are the ideal platform for the intergrated graphics on these processors. These new processor should sell like hot cakes. We at Ninjalane cannot wait to get ahold of one of these guys.

Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture has gone entirely mainstream with the arrival of the dual-core desktop processors code-named Clarkdale. This release also marks two major milestones: the first 32-nm processor, and the first major desktop CPU with integrated graphics. But is it a peanut butter and Vegemite sandwich? Hmm.

Think I just figured out my next laptop buy. cool smile
