Solid-state drive prices to dive @ CNet
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillI cannot wait to start using SSD for my desktop PC. This has been in many geeks dreams for a long time. This is going to be so awesome. Make them cheaper and faster please.
"But the cost per gigabyte of solid-state drive storage will drop as notebook PC makers like Apple switch to solid-state drives with capacities above 100GB based on multilevel cell (MLC) technology. Adoption by notebook PC makers is expected to start in the third quarter, according to industry sources."

Intel and Nvidia headed for licensing stand-off @ CNet
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillThe rumor mill has brought us something fun to chew on this week. We all knew this was going to happen. Let's see how the titans fight it out. It's like wrestling without the big buff dudes, and chicks.
"The story is that Intel and Nvidia are currently negotiating technology licenses for Nehalem, Intel's next-generation desktop CPU due out at the end of this year. As we were told from multiple desktop vendors who wish to remain nameless, Intel wants to license SLI from Nvidia for its Nehalem chipsets, and if Nvidia won't, Intel will withhold the license that would enable Nvidia to support Nehalem's memory controller, and thus Nehalem, on its own chipsets."
OMG, OMG! Watch out for the chair!

"Our last 780i NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI chipset review, seems to hold a lot of promise with its solid design and with the features that the NVIDIA chipset brings to the table. Just how well does this board compare with the rest of the Intel board, or even the other NVIDIA based boards?"
Yes, I have huge amounts of pocket change to be honest. I have to wear a belt just keep my pants up from it. Just call me saggy pants.

AMD Phenom versus Athlon X2 @ PC Perspective
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillThis is a subject that has been somewhat beaten like a dead horse. Still it is a very good read. It also gets away from the Intel bashing AMD that many sites seem to focus only on.
"It is not much of a stretch to say that AMD may have been a tad bit aggressive to pursue a monolithic quad core architecture while still using their aging 65 nm process. The chips we have are big (280 mm square +), hot, and power hungry considering their clockspeed. Perhaps a case of "A Bridge Too Far", but one that was forced upon them by the continued competition from Intel in the form of their Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad families of products. While the Phenom does come close to catching Intel in terms of per core performance, it does fall short in most applications. This has lead most reviewers and quite a few enthusiasts to pronounce that AMD is "toast"."
To bad I think the Phenom is to advanced, and to large. I think this really kills the overclocking. I was really looking forward to doing some, but had to pass on the Phenom for it's lacking ability to overclock.

The product lines they offer looks pretty impressive, and today we take a look at their new PS964U CPU cooler, which incorporates their HTC technology (Heat-pipe Touch Chip). This cooler also features an ultra silent 92x92x25mm PWM fan and 6mm x 4 heat pipes design."
Note to self. "Need to watch for 2PCOM for my next air cooler."

"The G.Skill PC2-8500 4GB PI Memory is another strong performing dual channel memory kit. Stability is top notch and the kit is very reliable under pressure. At full load, the memory keeps its composure and pumps out the bandwidth. Thanks to the new spreaders, it was only slightly warm to the touch and looks pretty sweet. It's also very nice to see that the heat spreaders haven't added much extra weight to the modules."
I'm torturing a set of these right now. Insert evil laugh here.HAHAHA!

abit moves to dispel rumours @ Hexus
Published: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 | By: Dennisabit friends, Hexus, has come to the rescue and attempted to get to the bottom of the recent digitimes article talking about how abit is looking to phase out of the motherboard market. As always rumors are not true, or in this case taken out of context.
Here is a snip:
“It’s not true; we’re just as committed to motherboards as ever,” said Welling. “We improved our motherboard sales by 160 percent last year.
To further stress abit’s commitment, Welling said “We will have 38 motherboards on display at Computex, 12 of which will be new. We will have a full range of Intel, NVIDIA and AMD boards, including the new, high-end, Intel P45 based IP45 Max.”
Asked how he thought the rumour may have started, Welling said: “We are trying to broaden the abit brand and producing digital home and consumer electronics products, such as our digital photo frame and printer: FunFab. Perhaps someone read into that.”This is not the first time digitimes has "gotten it wrong" and I'm sure it won't be that last.

Abit reportedly to phase out the market
Published: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 | By: DennisSecond-tier motherboard maker Abit is reportedly concidering phasing out of the motherboard market after evaluating its shipment performance of Intel 4 series motherboards, according to channel sources.
Abit, howerver, maintains it does not know anything about the speculation and will continue to develop motherboard products.
Abit's has failed to meet the expectations of parent company Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) in its ability to compete with fellow second-teir makers in terms of performance, or first-tier makers in terms of pricing in the mid-range and entry-level market, and so the company is evaluating whether to quit the market and start developing other products for the Abit brand, noted the sources.Sadly I think we all saw this coming, its too bad though abit has been a stable in the enthusiast motherboard market for years.

Biostar TPower N750 at Overclockers Online
Published: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 | By: WillI cannot help, but love the Biostar T versions of there boards. The colors plus the overclocking, and all solid caps. Then throw in the price break for a very well made board. It is hard not to like it.

I love the package of accessories and software included and NVIDIA finally brings PCI Express 2.0 support to SLI configs for AMD CPUs.
