SiS makes inroads into AMD chipset market

"Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) is making inroads into the AMD chipset market and will increase its efforts by releasing a number of PCI Express (PCIe) chipsets for the AMD K8 platform, beginning in November, according to the company.
SiS claims it ranks second in market share in both the Intel and AMD chipset market, and its goal is to become the number-one producer of AMD chipsets. Currently, VIA is the market leader in the AMD segment." -
Abit hits record motherboard shipments in September
Published: Friday, October 8, 2004 | By: Dennis"Abit Computer achieved record motherboard shipments of 370,000 units in September, for a total of 2.463 million units shipped in the first three quarters of this year, according to the company. Based on its 2004 shipment forecast, the second-tier motherboard maker forecasts shipments this quarter should climb to 1.04 million units, from 1.01 million in the third quarter."
That is a lot of boards. -

Email Scams - The Evil that is Human Nature
Published: Friday, October 8, 2004 | By: DennisHey everyone, just a reminder, email is great though not all email you get is email you want to have. For instance spam is oftentimes disguised to look like legit email from a legit source in an attempt to get you to click on the link. However if you look carefully you can find small things wrong with the message that give the message away as something you don’t want (spam/scam).
A good rule of thumb, never click on the link directly if it comes in an email from what appears to be a legit source. Instead go to the legit website and sign in directly. If there is any action you need to take the legit website will let you know. Otherwise you might as well give the scammers everything you own cause that is what they are going to take.

This can look great in that custom case though be careful since polishing metal can induce a static charge large enough to destroy your data and/or HDD. -
Asetek Vapochill Light Speed @ ocprices
Published: Thursday, October 7, 2004 | By: DennisMy biggest beef with the Vapochill was the rather shoddy case the unit came in. The metal was pretty weak and quite heavy, granted it needed to hold up the chill unit but the design left much to be desired.
"Unlike the Vapochill XE, as previously mentioned, the LS is a base unit. This means that you will need to have a case to go on top. I highly recommend the Lian Li PC-60, since this is the case Asetek have tailored the LS to look its best with. Installed, you should have something resembling the system below, pretty stylish I'm sure you will agree!"

Nexus AXP-3200 SkiveTek Cooler @ ModFathers
Published: Wednesday, October 6, 2004 | By: DennisI got to meet the Nexus guys while visiting with my contact from CoolJag at Computex, they are very nice and have very good intentions in the computer market. It would seem that the modfathers gang didn't like what they saw.
"It is very quiet and is very well made. However it loses on that very vital looks department because of the ugly black fan and again because of the poor fitting clip."
I'm still wondering what they ment by a poor fitting clip unless they wanted to have a thumb clip instead of having to use a screwdriver. -

GA-8I915P Duo-A @ Hi-TechReviews
Published: Tuesday, October 5, 2004 | By: DennisI just got done reviewing the LanPartyUT 915P-T12 motherboard based on the same chipset. and while I can agree that reverse compatibility is a good thing to have there is a time when you just have to draw the line and say, Whoa, now that is silly.
Then again back in the day when 72pin SIMM memory was being replaced by the 168pin DIMM modules there was a demand to find a board that supported both memory platforms. The reason? memory was frickin expensive!
"The next slot is Gigabyte's proprietary G.E.A.R. slot. G.E.A.R. stands for GIGABYTE Enhanced AGP Riser, what this slot does is allow you to use your traditional AGP graphics card in the Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo-A."
It would seem that Gigabyte is also not requiring that you use a 24pin PSU since the extra 4 pin holes are covered by a sticker. -
