SpaceShipOne Has Made it to Space
Published: Monday, June 21, 2004 | By: DennisAs of this writing the craft has made it to space and has started its decent.
*Update* the craft has touched down, and Mars will be happy that M&M's have made it to sub-orbital space.
I wasn't really pulling for the Paul Allen team but he does have the bux to make it happen. Hopefully the John Carmak team can get off the ground before the deadline. -
Kingmax Hardcore PC4000 @ Envy News
Published: Monday, June 21, 2004 | By: Dennis"Perhaps it is because it is my favorite color, but I found them to be quite pleasing on the eye, and perhaps they are meant to symbolize the "green with ENVY" your fellow tweakers will feel when they see them. Now some might prefer copper sinks over aluminum, but at least we are able to say they have them and will hopefully give us some "room to move""
DDR500, Cas3, 2.6v. I dunno about you but these just seem to be typical DDR500 modules with a fancy name. Oh, and green heatspreaders.

Computex 2004 Day 4 Posted
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: DennisLast year day 4 of our Computex coverage included a gallery of booth babes, I am sorry to report that due to unforeseen technical issues the gallery had to be cut short. (Something was wrong with the connection between operator and new camera)

Computex 2004 Day 3 Posted
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: DennisEverything seemed to be really kicked back almost like nobody expected anything to happen, even the guys guarding the doors didn't seem to care what you did provided that you had the proper credentials.

Gainward CoolFX Powerpack! Ultra/2600 @ Hexus
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: DennisThis is the l33+ h4><0r of video cards, check it out.

" So since the introduction of NVIDIA's NV40 GPU over 2 months ago, Gainward have been busy building a water block for it, set to cool both GPU and memory modules, all 256MB of which lies on the same side of the PCB as the GPU. A few tweaks here, new clocks there, supporting hardware prepared and the water block primed and ready, Gainward's water-cooled GeForce 6800 Ultra is ready to rock."
The new coolers on display at Computex had a little window along the edge of the cooler that lights up when the system is on. The default color is red though I’m pretty sure this can be changed with a few minor mods.

The Computex Taipei 2004 Round Up @ HardwareZoom
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: DennisI still need to post the last two Ninjalane days at Computex, I guess this would be a good reason to get crackin'.
The coverage here is actually pretty good and they went way overboard on the booth babes, it would almost seem like they snuck in a little early and setup a little photo studio. (You'll see what I mean). Excellent photos too, sucks my camera was being a little bitch.
"Computex Taipei 2004 has come to an end; thousands of booths were displaying their latest products during the show. This attracted 26,221 foreign buyers who are mostly from USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore. Combining with local visitors, there were 109,339 visitors in total, 18.67% increases over previous year. Here is the detail report on Computex."

ATi Radeon 9600XT Review @ XYZ Computing
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: DennisHere is a review you don't normally see, an ATI 9600XT vs. an ATI 9600 Pro. We know the XT is supposed to be faster but by how much??
"The card runs stock at a 500mhz core speed. The top speed utilizing the OverDrive function is said to be 527mhz.
Also, all of the XT series card come complete with a coupon for a free copy of Half-Life 2."
Provided that HL2 comes out before Duke Nukem Forever it might be a pretty good deal.

MSI NX6800 Ultra @ t-break
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: Dennis"The card itself is a monster- pretty much your standard FX6800 Ultra reference design with two power connectors on the back and two DVI connectors along with an S-Video connector on the front. You’ll definitely lose the PCI slot next to your AGP slot due to the mammoth cooling solution."
The 6800 Ultra is prolly the hottest card rumored to be on the market; unfortunately nobody can buy one yet.

Promise FastTrack S150 SATA @ MadShrimps
Published: Thursday, June 17, 2004 | By: DennisI've been looking all over for a RAID 5 SATA controller and it looks like I might have found one.
"As you can see, the SX4 (lower card) is much bigger as the TX4 (upper card). Notice the heatsink on the TX4 controller and the absence of any heatsink on the SX4. Also notice the SD-RAM slot on the SX4."
whoa!!

RAID 5 isn't really that fast when compared to a 2-drive stripe but having an extra drive in the loop ensures that your data is safe if one drive happens to fail.
