  • Cooler Master Xdream SE Review @ DarkVision

Published: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 | By: Dennis

" The Xdream SE is really a thing to have! A better edition of the Xdream! You can control the speed external, on PCI bracket or 3.5” drive. This is really the #1 overclokers’ choice! You can easily overclock with 300 Mhz! I didn’t have any problem with the installation, it was just hard to open the packet. You’re a happy man when the packet is open ;-)"
I'd have to agree the package was a pain in the arse to open. big grin smile Here is our review of the xDream for comparison.

  • CeBit Geforce FX Ultra 5800 Pictures

Tons of pics and they all have one thing in common, the nVidia GeForceFX GPU. Be sure to check out the Gainward offering, it looks pretty sweet.
"Gainward were kind enough to take us at the rear of their stand and show off the below system which was running a reference 5800 Ultra board, but with watercooling. Apparently it was done by one of the Bit-Tech guys so kudos to them. The thing was running sweet (looping 3DMark 2001 and 2003 in front of our eyes) at 550/500, sadly they couldn't get rid of the memory lock, otherwise they were pretty sure it would go higher too. Still, the setup looked very l33t."
You might also notice that most of these cards are the Ultra version which we have been told won't be making it to retail shelves.

  • Abit NF7-S Review @ AMD3D

Published: Monday, March 17, 2003 | By: Dennis

In typical Abit fasion the PCB is a very dull brown so the board won't be the highlight of your next casemodding project. To some people that isn't important though.
"Here, I used an Athlon XP2200+ (Thoroughbred) and two sticks of good quality Samsung DDR400 ram for overclocking. I managed to overclock my Athlon XP2200+ (13.5x133) to 2.2Ghz (11x199) ... that's equivalent to an XP2600+. Rock solid stability with no problems. Amazing."
I'm pretty sure the Soltek SL-75FRN-L would do that.

I'm sure that just about everybody has seen this comic so I won't say much about it, though be sure to check out the Ninjalane 1337 Dictionary for the translation. tongue smile

  • AOpen AX4GE Tube-G Review @ Techware Labs

Published: Thursday, March 13, 2003 | By: Dennis

This is one of those boards being shown off at Comdex this last year featuring the Intel i845PE chipset and the AOpen specific TubeSound Technology.
"Sound wise, vacuum tubes are known to produce a more "harmonic" and "warmer" sound than solid-state amplification. The sound is said to be more realistic, and it's this that vacuum tubes have their advantages over transistors (especially in the mid-high ranges)."
They didn't really dive into how the board overclocked but could get it to run at 117Mhz FSB.

I also discovered something else from the review; the tube only amplifies the front stereo channels with the rear channels using non-tube amplification.

amdboard has what they call the first ever collection of Athlon 64 motherboard mfgs and motherboard names. Check out the list and see if you see anyone familiar.

They are calling the Soltek board "light brown" instead of golden. tongue smile
