  • 10 P4 Heatsinks Under Review @ Tweakers AU

Published: Monday, June 17, 2002 | By: Dennis

Heatsinks galore, though I am very disappointed in that the AVC "Sunflower" didn't appear on their list it would appear that the all copper ThermalTake Dragon “clone”sink is the stand-in. Well if you are in the market check it out.

General heatsink fyi: Copper heatsinks will be very loud, but work quite well. Alu heatsinks won't help with any overclocking venture. The copper core/alu radial configs seem to be the best of both worlds, good cooling with a minimum amount of noise.

  • Lindows Equipped PC

Wal-Mart is now selling PC's with Lindows preinstalled instead of the industry standard Windows OS. This is a bold move for the market chain esp. considering the cross section of people that shop at Wal-Mart. Their new slogan should be "We got your Windows refund right here!" (parsed from a Penny Arcade cartoon).

  • GeForce Ti4400 Shootout @ Gamers Depot

Published: Friday, June 14, 2002 | By: Dennis

As far as GeForce 4 cards go the Ti4400 seems to be the best card for your upgrade buck. Granted its the supa fast like the Ti4600 but its not hardware limited like the Ti4200 and is overclockable.

" As a quick recap, the Ti4400 is functionally the exact same chip as the TI4600, the only difference is its slightly lower core clock speed and memory clock speed. "

Also keep in mind that since many of these cards are copies of nVidia's reference design they all perform identically. So, take the benchmarks with a grain of salt and maybe start looking at price vs. features.

  • Dual P4 Speculation From VIA

Published: Friday, June 14, 2002 | By: Dennis

The following non-English forum thread shows a single processor P4 motherboard using the VIA P4X333 chipset. If you zoom in on this photo and look at the silkscreen you will see something very interesting.

Leave it to the rebel forces of VIA to exploit the SMP features of the Northwood processor.

  • Antec TruePower 330watt PSU Review @ Mikhailtech

Published: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 | By: Dennis

Selurekim picked one of these bad boys up the other day and except for lower CFM numbers from your fans (for quieter operation) I'm thinking its a pretty good deal.
"I should also mention that Antec decided to tighten the tolerance levels down from Intel's +/-5% to +/-3%"
Go Enerm.... err, Antec! tongue smile

  • More Than Just Motherboards

Published: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 | By: Dennis

A short time ago I posted some news of Soltek's entry into the video card market and now looking at the big picture I can't really think of any motherboard mfgs. that don't make video cards. So, what's next? Hercules brand motherboards?? big grin smile
"However, seeing the increasing number of graphics card makers may affect the overall market conditions, graphics chip suppliers Nvidia and ATI have become more stringent about the qualification approval of card manufacturing partners."
