"Northwood" Processors with SMP Ability?
Published: Monday, January 7, 2002 | By: DennisI picked this bit of info up from 2cpu.com today and found it quite interesting. It would appear that x-bit labs looked a little deeper into the Northwood core during their review and found that the SMP feature, previously removed, made it back into the Northwood. Here is a snip.
"As you can see, the only difference between the flags of the Willamette and Northwood processors is the support of On-chip APIC hardware implemented in the new core. It implies that Pentium 4 based on Northwood core supports SMP configurations."
The "As you can see" refers to a wcpuid screenshot showing the difference between the two processors. I'll let you speculate on what could happen next.

Ninjalane Message Forums Updated
Published: Monday, January 7, 2002 | By: DennisWell it has been awhile since I have even mentioned the Ninjalane Message Forums but I figured it was about time. The forums have gotten an upgrade. I added some usability and security features to name a few. The Ninjalane Message Forums are not on the same scale as your commercial UBB or vBulletin system. Howerver they are over 50% coded by me so upgrades and enhancements come gradually.
Please feel free to post your comments if you like. Btw I'm also accepting Moderator apps if an when usability increases. -
P4 "Northwood" vs. AMD Reviews
Published: Monday, January 7, 2002 | By: DennisWith the official release of the P4 2.0 and 2.2GHz "Northwood" processors it is to be expected that reviews of the new processor will be all over the place, I'll do my best to list the ones I find below. So far most of the benchmarks show a slight increase in speed over the older "Willamette" processor and many reports are also showing the "Northwood" to be very overclockable. In other news and not to be out done AMD has released their XP +2000 processor running at 1.67GHz, even though the clock speed is slower than the Intel the comparisons show it to have more "Horsepower".

P4 478 Thermaltake Dragon Orb

Looking at the base it would appear to be influenced by the AVC Sunflower with an orb fan on top. btw check out the title on the ThermalTake page, they have no clue what they are doing.

Intel has kept with the Socket-478 Form Factor but shrunk the die and increased the L2 cache, for a total of 512k. Though at $480 it might be awhile before you see these in the mainstream.

Export restrictions were established during the cold war in hopes to slow the spread of nuclear weapons. The idea being that by limiting access to computers powerful enough to design them nuclear threats would be limited.
