  • New iMac Idea Copied?

Published: Thursday, January 10, 2002 | By: Dennis

A Belgian Web designer claims to have drawn up a design similar to the new iMac over 6 months ago, and here is the good part. Not only did he sketch out the new design but he also posted it on the Internet to a website frequented by Apple employees. Of course now he is wondering why he never got credit for the design, h3ll I would too. Be warned this article is one of those reiterative "This guy said this, and here is quote to prove it "quote guy saying this""

  • Recycled! - A Case Mod of Leftover Parts

Published: Tuesday, January 8, 2002 | By: Dennis

This is a very interesting mod in that it was built completely out of leftover parts from the playtime mod we did awhile back. Overall the mod is pretty simple and to the point, enhanced cooling and lots of paint.

  • A Couple New Motherboards from Soltek

Published: Tuesday, January 8, 2002 | By: Dennis

These new boards might be old news but are still quite a find. The first is a sexy red P4 DDR motherboard based on the VIA P4X266A chipset called the SL-85DRV3 or SL-85DRV+. Keep in mind this is the much talked about "illegal" chipset from VIA.
The next motherboard is the SL-75DRV4. This board is based on the VIA KT266A this Socket A chipset and features an unique purple PCB.

  • Via Sells More Chipsets Next to Intel

Published: Tuesday, January 8, 2002 | By: Dennis

I think someone was stuffing the ballot box over there but who am I to judge. I think it is a given that Intel will be quite upset with this news. You can get the whole scoop at theinquirer.net

  • "Northwood" Processors with SMP Ability?

Published: Monday, January 7, 2002 | By: Dennis

I picked this bit of info up from 2cpu.com today and found it quite interesting. It would appear that x-bit labs looked a little deeper into the Northwood core during their review and found that the SMP feature, previously removed, made it back into the Northwood. Here is a snip.
"As you can see, the only difference between the flags of the Willamette and Northwood processors is the support of On-chip APIC hardware implemented in the new core. It implies that Pentium 4 based on Northwood core supports SMP configurations."
The "As you can see" refers to a wcpuid screenshot showing the difference between the two processors. I'll let you speculate on what could happen next. big grin smile

  • Ninjalane Message Forums Updated

Published: Monday, January 7, 2002 | By: Dennis

Well it has been awhile since I have even mentioned the Ninjalane Message Forums but I figured it was about time. The forums have gotten an upgrade. I added some usability and security features to name a few. The Ninjalane Message Forums are not on the same scale as your commercial UBB or vBulletin system. Howerver they are over 50% coded by me so upgrades and enhancements come gradually.

Please feel free to post your comments if you like. Btw I'm also accepting Moderator apps if an when usability increases.

  • P4 "Northwood" vs. AMD Reviews

Published: Monday, January 7, 2002 | By: Dennis

With the official release of the P4 2.0 and 2.2GHz "Northwood" processors it is to be expected that reviews of the new processor will be all over the place, I'll do my best to list the ones I find below. So far most of the benchmarks show a slight increase in speed over the older "Willamette" processor and many reports are also showing the "Northwood" to be very overclockable. In other news and not to be out done AMD has released their XP +2000 processor running at 1.67GHz, even though the clock speed is slower than the Intel the comparisons show it to have more "Horsepower".
