  • Windows 2000 Service Pack 2

Published: Wednesday, May 16, 2001 | By: Dennis

Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 was released late last week (not sure if it was an offical release) and as some of you know the 103meg download would take forever over the modem.
So, in the flavor of IE installs and Windows update there is an express version that you can download. This program will do an "active patch" and only download the files that you need.

If you have a fast connection I might suggest just getting the entire Service Pack here

With the release of the Foster chip on the horizon some of us are curious to know more about it. HardwareAnalysis.com gives us a peek into this new processor line.

  • Micron to Partner with KTI Semiconductor

Published: Saturday, May 12, 2001 | By: Dennis

It would seem that the local memory chip maker has acquired/partnered with one of my favorite memory chip mfg. KTI.

I didn't pay much attention until finding that KTI Brand memory wasn't listed on Pricewatch anymore. Now the only company that produces Tiny BGA chips is Kingmax in PC150 flavors.

  • More red PCB action this time from MSI

Published: Thursday, May 10, 2001 | By: Dennis

It would seem that more and more companies are seeing the benefits of what I like to call the "iMac effect" where you offer products in different colors in hopes to sell more of them. MSI has announced a Limited edition K7T Turbo full of features and a Red PCB to boot.

For the curious here is an article on how a motherboard is built.

  • GeForce3 Stepping Info

Published: Wednesday, May 9, 2001 | By: Dennis

It would appear that in the interest of getting the GeForce3 to market there were two versions of the chip released. A3 and A5, the offical statement is that the A3 chip is less stable than the A5.
It is unknown at this time how this will effect performance, but I gather it has something to do with overclocking. Just a FYI to all of you that are planning on getting one of these cards.

  • Inno GeForce2 MX Review @ EXhardware

Published: Tuesday, May 8, 2001 | By: Dennis

This card is actually old news considering that Inno was one of the first companies to have GeForce2 cards on the market. I should know I have a PCI version of this very card.

  • Dust, and why it sux

Published: Monday, May 7, 2001 | By: Dennis

The CaseJunkiez have an interesting article up on Dust, Computers, and You. They suggest the best way to keep dust out of your case is to place filters on your intake fans. I actually went down that road once with my original case mod, I found the filter to be restrictive and ineffective.
Then again I was using the foam style filter which was a bad choice on my part, pantyhose tend to work much better.
