After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Introduction

In one of our latest motherboard reviews we commented on how the MicroATX form factor was rather uncommon in the enthusiast space but as of late things have been changing for the better. Not long ago we launched a review of the 790GX board from DFI. This was a CrossFire enabled MicroATX board based on the AMD 790GX chipset and designed for the hardware and gaming enthusiast.

In this review we will be looking at a slightly different version of the same board from Sapphire called the PURE Innovation 780V. As the name suggests the PURE Innovation 780V is based on the AMD 780V chipset which is a mid-range IGP designed for mainstream use.

On the surface the 780V may look similar to the 790GX, they both feature onboard graphics, a low power design, and support the latest HyperTransport 3.0. However the differences are in the details.  The 780V only comes with an HD 3100 graphics chip, the SB700 Southbridge and lacks may things like CrossFire technology, Avivo HD, and really doesn’t overclock well at all.
For a comparison list between the AMD 780V and 790GX chipsets please consult the AMD website.  We will be covering many of the features found on the PURE Innovation 780V in the following pages. For a complete list of features specific to the Sapphire PURE Innovation 780V please check out the product page found on the Sapphire website.
