Continuing our series of AMD-based motherboard reviews, today we have a review of Gigabyte's budget-oriented GA-MA770-UD3. This is one of the most popular AM2+ / AM3 compatible motherboards on the market for the simple reason that it offers a seemingly unbeatable price / performance with a rich feature set. • ASUS My Cinema EHD3-100 TV Tuner @ PureOverclock

Published: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 | By: Will

Here is something interesting even though most of the fire has calmed down for TV on the PC. Then again for a HTPC setup this looks to be pretty cool.

"As multimedia technologies and uses become more prolific and part of our daily lives, consumers are looking for products that fill more than one role. Historically, TV tuners have been rather one-dimensional, good only for TV viewing (and limited functionality at that) but that's no longer the case. Rarely do people nowadays look for products that "only" support one of anything.

The ASUS My Cinema EHD3-100 is one such product for the mainstream consumer, both in the terms of physical design but also in versatility and features. Let's take a look at this TV Tuner card that strives to offer users a fuller multimedia experience."

  • Windows 7 versus Windows XP on the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Netbook @ Legit Reviews

Published: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a great subject I'm sure people are going to be all over here very soon. With the huge popularity of the Netbooks, and Windows 7 gaining tons of momentum as well. It is good to see somebody is willing to jump in front of this bus to help answer all the questions.

"As you can see, Windows 7 performed very close to what Windows XP did. Windows XP only lasted 9 minutes longer than Windows 7 at idle, but both lasted over 10 hours on our ASUS Eee PC 1005HA! Our movie playback test showed a slightly larger difference of 26 minutes, but we were still satisfied with the results. Our overall impression is that we were not overly impressed with Windows 7's battery life performance, but it did not disappoint, either...."

  • Windows 7 Announcing: Release to Manufacturing

Published: Tuesday, July 28, 2009 | By: Dennis

Got this little tidbit in my inbox today.

It's almost here! We're very happy to tell you that we've hit the last big milestone on the way to Windows 7: Release to Manufacturing. We're packaging copies and manufacturers are putting it on new PCs. On October 22, you'll be able to get the final shipping product. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done; you helped make this an operating system we're all going to enjoy.

Don't miss the good stuff. With the final release rapidly approaching, make sure you learn about special offers and other news including details about launch events in your area. A great way to keep up with what's going on is to sign up for one of our free newsletters. Not only will you get the scoop on the Windows 7 launch, you'll get useful news throughout the year.

Meanwhile, RC's downloads are still available. You can get the release candidate download until August 20, 2009. After that, you won't be able to get the download, but if you have the software, you can still install the RC and get a key if you need one. (Keys will be available till March 2010. To get a key, just go to the Downloads page and follow the instructions.)

Good news for those of you looking forward to Windows 7 happy smile  However there seems to be a small "hitch". Notice how the October 22 date has no year associated with it??  We can only assume that the RTM only applies to OEM PCs meaning that we still have to wait until sometime next year for a full retail version of Windows 7, unless you're in the market for a new computer and won't be building it yourself.

  • Core i7 performance comparsion roundup @ ocaholic

Published: Tuesday, July 28, 2009 | By: Will

Here is an article to take some of the guess work out of the Core i7 performance situation. With the new versions that have come out this will help you understand where they stand among the older chips.

"Intels recent Core i7 CPUs promise plenty of processing power whereby the new Nehalem micro architecture brought some very basic changes. Meanwhile there is already the second pile of i7 CPUs hitting the stores with the 950 and 975 XE. This was reason enough for us to update our benchmark lists and also add the results of the Core i7 940."

Here is a beast of a video card from XFX coming factory overclocked with a watercooling block as well. Remember to get out your translators to read this awesome review.

"One of the fastest HD4890 videocards is the XFX 4890 1000M Black Edition with 1000/ 2000 MHz. But the stock cooler is to loud and not effective enough. A simple alternative was an watercooler like the Aquagratix HD4890. "

  • NL: PC Game Reviews Roundup

Published: Friday, July 24, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a few more PC games for everyone to check out.

Age Of Pirates 2: City Of Abandoned Ships (PC) @ GamingHeaven

"Almost three years ago Age Of Pirates: Caribbean Tales was released - an adventure style RPG simulation game which places you on the open sea in the hunt for treasure and glory. As well as swordfighting you could trade goods and control cities and forts. The follow up has been released recently by Akelia and Playlogic which promises to build on the original concept with more up to date features and options."

Street Fighter IV (PC) @ GamingHeaven

"Fighting game fans who only own a PC have a shortage of good titles available so the release of Street Fighter IV on this platform is big news. Capcom's biggest game has been around for almost 20 years now and has legendary status, but the big question has yet to be answered - is the PC version actually any good?"
  • Foxconn BloodRage GTI @ InsideHW

Published: Friday, July 24, 2009 | By: Dennis

Here is the trimmed down version to the popular Bloodrage motherboard from Foxconn.  We reviewed this board when it was first released and since then have seen a huge fan following around the board.

In a way we can't wait to see what they will kick out next. wink smile  Oh wait. we already did

Foxconn is one of those brands that, willingly or not, you have to respect. Since Foxconn is manufacturing a lot of components (such as DIMM slots, PCIe slots, connectors etc) that are used by companies such as ASUS, GigaByte, DFI etc, you could say that every motherboard is one part made by Foxconn. Foxconn didn’t pay too much attention at high-end motherboard models and almost all Foxconn motherboard models were very much like an OEM product. Times have changed, gamers and overclockers got very demanding, and a lot of dust got kicked up by this IT population.

We can only hope that Foxconn can keep the Quantum Force name alive and still produce some of the best motherboards money can buy.
