HDA X-Plosion 7.1 Sound Card @ nV News
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: Dennis"HDA is HiTec Digital Audio, developed the X-Plosion 7.1 DTS Connect sound card, and its North American distributor is Auzentech. The previous sound card developed by HDA is the X-Mystique, which was previously distributed by Bluegears, and has been reviewed by nV News in the past."
This is a sweet card, no doubt about it. -
SLI Patch @ NGOHQ
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: Dennis"A while back Asrock published a SLI enabling patch for their ULi chipset based motherboards that have two PCI-Express slots. Various rumors suggested that the patch would also function under other chipsets as well, and allow users with other chipsets to use SLI on their non-SLI motherboards. Unfortunately the original version of the patch installs only on ULi 1695/7 chipsets - you couldn’t use it if you didn’t have a motherboard with that particular chipset.
We’ve managed to rip the installer and to create a modified version of the SLI patch that allows you to use it with EVERY motherboard. We couldn’t do in-depth testing on other chipsets, but if the rumors are true then it should definitely work. Feel free to use it at your own risk, and please post the results in our forums. Remember, this is a modified version and is not supported by Asrock, ULi or Nvidia."
-- snip --
"Update: It seems that the patch is not working for Intel chipsets. We’re working on a patch update and it might take a while. We’re looking for beta testers with an ULi 1695/7 based motherboards.
Update II: If you’re planning to try this patch then don’t use it with ForceWare 84.12. My personal recommendation is ForceWare 77.77 for a better luck." -
NL: Review Block - Its DFI Time
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisDFI Rox, I must say they have done an exceptionable job on keeping with the enthusiast nature of the LanParty Series.

Opteron 148 overclocking guide @ Hardwareoverclock Austria
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisYou'll need a translator for this one but the pictures and charts are pretty universal.
"Bei diesem Test waren die Möglichkeiten fast unbegrenzt. Ein FSB von 300 MHz war auf unserem A8N-SLI nicht möglich, auf dem DFI schon. So wurden auch die Speicher zur Gänze ausgereizt. Der zweite wichtige Punkt war die mögliche höhere VCore auf dem DFI. Bei 1,65 Volt war dann das Maximum von 3060 MHz erreicht, und das stabil und nur mit Luftkühlung."
Yup, what he said.

HyperTransport Link Investigation @ EclipseOC
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisThis paragraph pretty much sums everything up.
"The HT link appears to effect one thing in it's current state: Video subsytem performance, and even there it's not a tremendous change until we get down to the very lower limits of the speed range that is available. It's been said before and I'll say it once more to drive the point home. The HyperTransport Link speed has a very small effect on system performance."
The HT is the speed in which the processor talks with the chipset, for stability you should keep this frequency at or below 1000Mhz, any higher and the system may not boot or could cause data corruption. -
Foxconn NF4SLI7AA-8EKRS2 Review @ Sudhian
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisThis is the latest nVidia chipset designed for the Intel 775pin processor. SLI hasn't been very big on the Intel side of things so it will be interesting to see how well it takes off.
"Foxconn’s NF4SLI7AA comes in a red color that matches most red ATI graphics cards perfectly—ironically the board is designed with SLI in mind. The PCB is accompanied by black and white slots that are plain but not visually distracting. Power connector placement is a bit disappointing. Although the 24-pin ATX connector is placed ideally towards the edge of the board next to the PATA ports, the auxiliary 12v connector is placed near the north bridge. This placement can become a pain when you’re routing cables since the cable may get in the way of the CPU fan."
There is also a huge ass fan on the Northbridge chip.

Diamond Viper X1900 XTX Released
Published: Thursday, March 2, 2006 | By: DennisMy first nVidia card was a Diamond, The Viper V770, aka TNT2 Ultra. The card was great and still works to this day, (cept for the fan, it died some time ago)
"The X1900 card represents the pinnacle of achievement in a wide-ranging series of high-performance graphics cards produced by Diamond and featuring the powerful ATI Radeon chip. The X1900 also features DirectX9, which brings three times the shader power to applications such as 3D games and fully supports the state-of-the-art Shader Model 3.0 architecture.
The X1900 is also equipped with ATI’s Avivo video and display platform, which enables a High-Definition visual experience, and allows for universal connectivity to various digital devices, including home theater systems, LCD monitors, HDTVs, projectors and notebooks. With resolution as high as 2560 x 1600 (used in Apple Cinema, for example), the X1900 is powerful enough to drive two LCD displays while maintaining stunning clarity. Avivo offers sharper display for video and photos compared with conventional cards, as well as "universal display connectivity" – which eliminates the long-standing barrier of being able to display PC graphics on a variety of consumer electronics devices, including big-screen televisions.
Yet another breakthrough is the X1900’s support of High Dynamic Range (HDR) with full post-processing capabilities, including anti-aliasing."

Some hot casemod action
Published: Thursday, March 2, 2006 | By: DennisOver the past couple weeks I've been busy doing a minor case mod to integrate a watercooling system into one of my soon to be server cases.
The worklog pics have been posted, follow the link below to check them out.

3 Items from Pure Overclock.
Published: Sunday, February 26, 2006 | By: DennisGainward rumour a 7800GTX 512MB 'GLH'
"Gainward’s GLH version is rumoured to be clocked somewhere around 600-650 MHz on the core and a mind blowing 2.2 GHz on the memory. If this turns out to be more than a rumour it will most likely be faster than a 7900 GTX."
Gainward BLISS 6800 GS ‘Goes like hell’
"Gainward’s BLISS 6800 GS GLH is no reference board. Sure, the core headroom is still up to the gods, but the memory headroom will destroy the competition. I managed to clock the memory to 1480 MHz at its peak. Just try and do that on any other 6800 GS with 2.0ns memory, it just won’t happen"
Now this is a super sweet board!!
7900 GTX specification confirmed @ Pureoverclock
"A source has let us know the specifications for the upcoming 7900 GTX. The part will allegedly have the following specification; a core clock of 650 MHz; a memory clock of 2.0 GHz; 24 pixel pipes, not 32 as predicted early last year"
Looks like Gainward is trying to make a comeback with some sweet hardware, too bad their website hasn't been updated and nobody else is reporting anything.
