After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Benchmarks - Overclocked

As with all of our reviews we pit the default speed system against the overclocked one in a head to head byte match. The results of this are below. The effective overclock for these tests is 4.0Ghz @ 200Mhz.  Our system would run at 4.4Ghz stable provided that hyperthreading was disabled.

Since we rather like having hyperthreading reflected in our benchmarks the 4Ghz setting was used..
    SiSoft Sandra Various Overclocks
    Quake 4
    Unreal Tournament 3
Overclocking on the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R was actually rather cumbersome at first.  It wasn't until after we started rooting around the BIOS for the settings we wanted to change did things start to turn around.

The resulting 4Ghz overclock was a conservative max clock using only a limited amount of vCore voltage and making sure to match speeds with our GSkill memory.  The board does support memory multipliers and comes with enough voltage settings to really push any Core i7.  So, while our overclock stopped at 4Ghz we do feel there is more this system can offer given some time and tuning.
