  • GeIL Black Dragon DDR2 1066MHz dual channel kit review @ ModReactor

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Ninjalane posted pics and information from Computex this year of these awesome looking RAM modules from Geil. Well now it is time to see a review on them in action.

"Geil Black Dragon DDR2 1066 is a cheap dual channel kit aimed mostly at gamers. You can expect out of it very stable work, nice performance and limited overclocking capabilities. Basically you get what you paid for (which mind you is less that for any of the other rival 1066MHz kits out there). One well positioned in its class product, that shines mostly with its price/performance ratio, still nowadays you'll get more from a 2x2GB gaming memory at even lower frequency. And indeed that is what we recommend you should do, unless of course that does not contradicts with your priorities in some way."

I love evil dragon RAM modules.big grin smile

  • ASUS Crosshair III Formula Motherboard Review @ Motherboards

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a sweet looking beast of a motherboard for the AMD platform. Once again Asus is raising the bar for enthusiast boards.

"ASUS has set a reputation among enthusiasts of offering high-priced excellent performing gaming motherboards of choice with their Republic Of Gamers motherboards and the CROSSHAIR III Formula is an excellent example of its breed. The board overclocked to 3.21GHz from the default 2.6GHz a 23% overclock that was completely stable. The board also has the features you want from an AMD board including support for AM3 Phenom II CPUs, an LCD POSTER, the ability to "Level Up" your CPU with the flick of a button and onboard Start, Reset and MemOK buttons on the board. The one negative on this board is the lack of more than two PCI Express x16 slots as the flexibility of more slots offers more choices for the gamer. Otherwise the CROSSHAIR III Formula board is excellent in every way from features, performance and stability. This board is a serious Hot Product as it has great features and excels in performance."

    I want one!big grin smile

  • Home Theatre PC and Ripping Station Guide @ Tweaktown

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a cool guide for all of you guys out there with your shiny new HD TV's and your serious media collection..

"So, you have the big 1080p Hi-Def TV, the awesome surround system and a DVD and music collection that puts HMV to shame. You could throw together some parts in a fancy case and make yourself a home theatre PC, but that's so 2008. Instead, let's spruce it up by getting your HTPC to copy your precious polycarbonates to a whopping big disk!

With the introduction of 1TB+ HDDs over the last couple of years, the prices have undergone the usual jostling and competitive dropping and are now in the region of extremely affordable; so there's no excuse not to own one."

I still need to build myself one of these.

  • EVGA X58 3X SLI Classified Motherboard Review @ Motherboards

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | By: Dennis

This might be the most talked about X58 motherboard in existance and for good reason, its expensive, comes with a ton of features, and overclocks like crazy.

EVGA put a serious amount of time, energy and effort into the design of this motherboard, and it shows in all the features and extras this motherboard has. This is no amateur product, in fact it's really a motherboard that is geared toward overclocking professionals who want the quality components, and overclocking capabilities the new 3X SLI Classified has to offer. This motherboard is a bit on the pricey side and only those who are looking  or the highest of the high-end motherboard will find themselves buying this board. The board looks absolutely great too and has ample room for  any after market CPU coolers, which on a board like this is a very good design implementation.

We got to see the board in semi action during CES, check out the photos in our CES show coverage.

  • AM2 Mainboards with OnBoard-Graphics - Roundup II @ TweakPC

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | By: Dennis

So what good is onboard graphics?  In the gaming world, not much.  However if you're looking to build a PC for mom or something for that big screen TV you might want to consider it.

Mainboards with graphics onboard are not expensive anymore. We took a look at the performance, stability and features in our second part of the roundup.

Funn,  none of the graphics enabled boards we have reviewed are listed.

  • CPU3D Review: MSI Eclipse Plus (X58) Motherboard

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | By: Dennis

On the surface this looks like the perfect X58, with any luck we'll have one in the Ninjalane Labs for testing.

When MSI released the Eclipse SLI last year, it was their highest performing motherboard based on Intel's X58 chipset. It was packed with features, including X-Fi audio, DRMOS technology, APS (Active Phase Switching) as well as supporting 3-way SLI ... it was a favourite amongst the gamers as well as enthuisasts.

If you are one to weigh your purchase decisions on specs the Eclipse line might be a good one to check out.

  • Happy Monday Everyone

Published: Monday, June 22, 2009 | By: Dennis

I trust that everyone had a good fathers day weekend.  It was my first one and was really quite uneventful at that.

In a way that is a good thing happy smile

We have been working hard to get things back to normal after Computex, seems a combo of Jet Lag and the lack of sleep caused me to catch a bug while I was in Taiwan and while it wasn't Pig Flu it was nasty enough to still be with me here a couple weeks after getting back.  Health concerns aside we have some new reviews in the works along with some cool tech articles so stay tuned.

Most Ninjalane readers will find the new articles to be a little on the simple side but nobody has really tackled the subjects so they should be a good community builder and help to expand the readership.

  • Travel with Techgage: Taiwan for Computex 2009 @ Techgage

Published: Thursday, June 18, 2009 | By: Dennis

As many of you already know I just got back from Taipei Taiwan for Computex and one thing I have learned after 5 trips over there, you can never run out of things to do.  Each year I try to do something new but I will admit I rarely capture the experience on film.  It's not like a Vegas thing but rather a "you would have to be there" sort of thing because you really can't describe anything in words.

Our Computex 2009 coverage is long done with, but this article isn't about what we saw on the show floor or learned during a meeting. Rather, this article takes a look at things from a different angle: the experience. We'll talk both about what life is like during these trips, and in this particular case, what it's like to spend time in Taiwan for just over a week.

I do have some photos from the trip.  I'll see about creating an album with comments, it will be my own little slideshow like what your grandparents used to do.

  • Ultimate BIOS Guide: Every Setting Decrypted and Explained! @ MaximumPC

Published: Thursday, June 18, 2009 | By: Dennis

    Well as the title says.

Every modern motherboard comes with an embedded Flash EEPROM module, otherwise known as the BIOS chip. Short for Basic Input Out System, this is the first bit of code executed when you boot your PC. The BIOS stores all kinds of essential information about your system, such as your CPU's clockspeed, the size and type of RAM you're running, the boot order of your media, what onboard devices are present, and much, much more. An improperly configured BIOS can prevent Windows (or Linux) from loading, while a finely tuned BIOS has the potential to significantly improve performance over that of a similarly spec'd machine.

Whatever your goal is, this is your go-to guide for everything you've ever wanted to know about the BIOS. We cover every setting -- even the obscure ones -- so you'll never feel lost or out of your element, no matter what motherboard you're rocking under the hood.
  • Gigabyte MA-790FXT UD5P Motherboard Review @ Motherboards

Published: Thursday, June 18, 2009 | By: Dennis

We have reviewed quite a few 790 boards, seems to be the preferred chipset on the AMD side.  Then again the nVidia one is kind of hard to get.

From a platform point of view the Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard fits the bill as a motherboard that supports AMD's latest CPUs on the AM3 platform including the 810 we used for this review. Features-wise this board has all of the features that an enthusiast will want from a new AM3 motherboard except for one. For those expecting to run three or four ATI cards in CrossfireX mode will be disappointed as this board only has two PCI Express x16 slots but that is not the target audience of this board.

The blue is rather inviting, too bad it's not darker.
