  • DDR3 Roundup: New Elpida Powered Kits from OCZ, Mushkin and Corsair @ Madshrimps

Published: Monday, August 10, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a nice little roundup of Elpida chips on these modules. The Elpida's have been know to be great overclockers, but not without some major failure issues.

"Sometimes there's more to a memory module than meets the eye : Corsair Dominator and Mushkin Redline modules have always looked better than nice, and now they have the performance to match. We put these two against the OCZ Blade, a real high end kit based upon Elpida's "hyper" chips, and against our 8 previous triple channel kits, in order to get a good view of the Core i7 memory landscape to date."

Yep, I want a set of each.big grin smile

  • An Exercise in Bait and Switch Online Fraud and How to Stay Safe @ TechwareLabs

Published: Friday, August 7, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a good read for many Ninjalane readers that are trying to save a buck while shopping online. Use common sense, and make sure to read up on the seller before buying.

"Staying safe with purchases online continues to get more and more difficult. Today I share with you an exercise in which I voluntarily subject myself to one of the classics in fraudulent activity, the Bait and Switch. Take a walk with me down my experience and see the dirty underbelly that these scam artists don't want you to see."

I have even dealt with well known websites that seem just as bad.cool smile

  • SilverStone Strider 1500W @ PureOverclock

Published: Friday, August 7, 2009 | By: Will

I honesty have no idea how you can really push this Power Supply unless you at least hook two high end systems to it. This is simply an amazing push for extreme overkill. I love it!

"Today we're looking at the SilverStone Strider 1500W power supply, an absolute monster unit that is somewhat appropriately named if you're a fan of the Half Life 2 gaming series. Let's take a look at the beast and see what it brings to the mix."

Seriously a "monster unit" is all you can call it. Godzilla PSU sounds much better.big grin smile

  • NL: PC Game Reviews Roundup

TGIF PC Game Reviews Roundup Edition.

    Prototype Game Review @ ocaholic

"An unknown virus, sickness or synthetic governmental bioweapon is seeking out New York and starts to change the city: Zombies band together as far as the eye can reach, soldiers have to march out to assure the security of citizens. Monsters and a network of intrigues and lies spread out all over Manhattan and you, a shape-shifter, are the only one being able to get to the bottom of this affair. Watch out for information and find the culprits; you have a way of your's own to unearth the truth."

Officers - PC Review @ Gamepyre

"Another thing that Officers has going in its favor is the cost; at only $29.99, it is a gamble worth taking. Despite the shortness of the single player campaign (about 6 to 8 hours depending on strategy and difficulty level, the multiplayer battles should provide the additional entertainment. Now, if you hate or if you are just burned out on the WWII genre, Officers will not change that. As I've said, Officers is not a bad game per say, but it is a title that will soon be forgotten. Now, I do want to point out that the game did not include a skirmish mode where you can fight the AI on multiplayer maps. You can however use the editor to make new single player missions if you really want. While this is an entertaining game, the replay value is somewhat limited. How can you have an RTS with no skirmish mode?"

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta (PC) Review @ Gamingheaven

"In all the Fallout games there has always been a downed alien space ship and if you had been exploring the wastelands of Fallout 3 you would have already noticed it .... sending out an ominous distress call. This call gets answered and once again Bethesda Game Studios have a foundation for another downloadable expansion pack for their hugely successful futuristic title."
  • MSI X58M LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Motherboard Review @ Madshrimps

Published: Thursday, August 6, 2009 | By: Will

This MSI board has been very popular among the masses with it's lower price, and all of it's abilities among the sea of Micro-ATX boards on the market. Let's see if the hype is worth the price, or should we just pay a little more in price for something better.

"X58 chipset has been introduced to the market for 9 months, and is still on top-of-the-range of Intel product line. For some main board manufacturers, Micro ATX is no longer a low-priced product. We would like to introduce you MSI X58M which is a price-valued Micro ATX, which retails below $200"

    Enjoy!big grin smile

  • EVGA Killer Xeno Pro Gaming Network Card Review @ Hardware Secrets

Published: Wednesday, August 5, 2009 | By: Will

Looks like we have an EVGA Killer on our hands. This killer likes to make victims out of gaming LAG. Well lets read on to see if EVGA makes a ripple or waves with this new Killer NIC product.

"Who hasn't screamed at the monitor when a faltering internet connection disrupted an otherwise good online match? No matter how powerful and gaming-oriented a PC is, sometimes lag is inevitable. To try and minimize these problems, BigFoot Networks released the Killer Xeno Pro, a network card sold by EVGA that takes control of the internet away from Windows and manages the bandwith to the user's gaming needs. The operation is a bit complex but the purpose of this test is to see if it delivers what it promises."

Don't believe the hype. Even though I have tried it and believe a little bit.big grin smile

  • Khronos' President talks OpenCL, DX Compute Shader, and more @ TechReport

Published: Wednesday, August 5, 2009 | By: Will

I know that OpenCL has become a big topic for everyone including even the mighty Mac crowd. Since the new Snow Leopard Mac OSX is going to support this new API big time. Making more use out of the GPU on the Mac over just gaming on it.

"We recently had the opportunity to speak with Neil Trevett, who fills positions as both the Khronos Group's President and Nvidia's VP of Embedded Content. Consumers might not hear the Khronos name too often, but the organization is responsible for setting and updating a number of key standards: among them OpenGL, OpenGL ES, and most recently, OpenCL."

Gaming on a Mac? Yeah Right!tongue smile
